Sunk in Face

Hello All, I have a training/diet question I would like to get some help with.

I recently started avidly road biking the first of July. I have had probably 4 rest days since starting, and have put close to 500+ miles on the bike.

Well several people have told me my face has drawn/drown up? I can notice it myself too.

I weigh a135LBS and I 5.7Ft so I am not on some weight loss adventure by no means.

Nonetheless, Riding 90 miles at a time and putting in 200+ miles a week on a bike will undoubtedly cause one to loose weight.

I have not altered my diet I eat anything I want, and in fact I eat more now than I did before I started riding so much. My wife is like... I also drink a protein shake after each ride. I do my best to keep my calories coming in, but I just cant take in the amount I loose on a ride. I would get sick forcing myself to eat when I am not hungry.

Nonetheless, I do want to trim up and be lean and mean, but I do not want people thinking I am sick or something because of my face loosing some fat.

This probably just part of riding a lot, but I figured I would ask!

Thanks in advanced.

  • Did you lose much weight in that time, I did 940miles in July (35600 Calories by Hrm) and my weight didn't change much.

I really did not take a tally of weight loss/Gain, for I didn't start this adventure to loose weight so the thought to check my weight never occurred till people started saying my face was sunk in lol.

I do not think I have lost much just water weight.

your weight is probably redistrobuted instead of lost... ie, you might weigh a similar amount but carry more in leg muscle than body fat now... maybe your face looks thinner due to this... ??

That could very well be true because my legs are getting larger/cut.

    Thanks
  • So you've been riding for a month now. And have only taken 4 days off.

And you do 90+ miles at a time. But only 200+ miles per week. And 500+ miles in the month.

If you had cycled all of July with 4 days off and done 90 miles a ride, then you would have cycled over 2400 miles.

Which would explain why you might look like you've got sunken features.

Bit silly all this. If your not eating pasties for breakfast and your exercising a lot, your going lose weight.

Face, gut, @ss and arms will get slimmer quite quickly if your cycling hard enough.

If you want a chubby face, ride less and eat more.

To say that riding 500 miles in a month will inevitably lead to weight loss is rubbish. That's not even a lot of miles for a serious cyclist. That's only about 17 miles a day on average or around 500 kCal extra calorie intake per day - your protein shake will account for half of that. Then have an extra muesli bar and a banana and you've filled that gaping 500 kCal hole.
    More problems but still living....
  • Please note - it's LOSE weight. You keep LOOSE change in your pockets.
