Does frame colour matter?

As you will see from my other threads I am looking for a new bike and thought I had found the one yesterday.
Trek 4.7 Ultegra with £500 off at Evans.
Then I showed a picture to my wife and son who both said if I was 25 and not 50 then the bike would look good, but mostly White with red and black is simply too young!
What you think? May be I just stick to BLACK!!!!!!!!

Fuck the haters. Get whatever makes you feel 25 and not 50! White shows up the grease/dirt and therefore harder to clean, btw.0

just had a quick look online and doesn't look too young to me, at least in white it will be nice and visible to other road users.Giant Defy Advanced
Cannondale Super Six 105

It's all about how you ride it, not how old you are :P (If you are seen belting it up a steep climb Lance Armstrong style then you will look the part!)0

+1 It's your bike. FWIW mines bright yellow and black and according to others is rather garish. Give 'em the bird. The only disability in life is a poor attitude.0 -
Don't get black-they get too hot and melt!
Funnily enough i was looking at the bike you mentioned yesterday and thought it was very nice-do it,you know you want to!0 -
Frame colors effect speed when ridden in direct sun light, its due to heat expansion. Here's some examples
Black: 20mph avg
Red: 21.3mph avg
White: 25.8mph avg0 -
My bike is all white ... and to be honest, I never really crossed a bike off my list based on colour.
Personally, the brighter the bike, the more likely Mr. Car driver will see you so IMO white is far superior to black0 -

Cycling is all about bright colours, look at the professional peloton. You're never too old for any colour of bike. If you like it and you want it, buy it. Nice bike by the way.2004 Trek 5500 OCLV

There ain't nothing wrong with the way that Trek is styled, looks superb to me .... go for it.
If your wife & son get their way you'll end up with a beige bike. :P0 -
The only problem with white red and black is that it is the bike equivalent of the silver car - attractive but dull. I have a Ribble Gran Fondo (which is in those colours) - I'd prefer it if it wasn't but everyone else seems to think otherwise. I wouldn't worry about it!Faster than a tent.......0

I like to be as different as possible and having, white, blue, yellow, red all mixed up really makes you stand out from the crowd, more importantly to drivers.
You stick with it and buy something even more colourful next time!I'm cycling 300 miles to Amsterdam on 15th -18th September to raise £1,200 for SCOPE. If you would like to sponsor me, please visit my blog http://www.carl2amsterdam.com0 -
My Cervelo S3 frameset arrives today - Thor Hushovd limited green and white trim. Did the colour matter - of course it did! I often wonder why people care so much what others think of them. Ride with a smile (unless you're going up a 1:12).0

There are certain unwritten rules in cycling and if you choose the wrong frame colour you will be hated by true cyclists out on the road. They will simply ignore you if you try to talk to them and they will probably go as far as to sabotage you by throwing drawing pins into your path. I enjoy painting my bkes different colours. I have had luminous orange, yellow, green and now im on a satin black phase.
I couldn't care less what people think of the colour of my bike and neither should you.0 -
Yes frame colour is important. It should be one that you really like.0

I had a matt black MTB some time ago with black decals and parts, what with wearing mostly black cycling gear it all felt a bit young at 45...stupid I know.Where would you be if you fell down a hole?.. Stuck down a hole... in the fog... Stuck down a hole, in the fog, at night... WITH AN OWL!0

Yeah black frames are faster.0

I'm not one for over-decoration. My Mercians were always black with black transfers which just showed the gold outline of the name. I thought it looked elegantly understated. I liked my BMW motor cycles which were all black with white lining and my black and gold Velocette. I've always liked purple too and Higgins Trike was sprayed purple.
However, I would have enjoyed all the foregoing machines whatever the colour. Doesn't matter at all IMO. But, if you have to specify, then choose whatever you like.Old cyclists never die; they just fit smaller chainrings ... and pedal faster0 -
I went for the bright pink and yellow onw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is an ugly Trek which is far too young for the likes of you. However the other posters are correct; so what.
I distract onlookers from my clashing orange tyred, green saddled, silver and black bike by sitting an old fart on top who openly displays grey bits, bald bits and bulging lycraed bits. No one notices the bike0 -

If you're fifty you're old enough not to be bothered by this sort of nonsense. Buy whatever bike you want.
PS Mines a very understated black and grey Madone.Purveyor of "up"0 -
I'm thinking of getting a Look 586 in Mondrian colours, so black, white and red sounds rather understated in comparison.Cannondale SS Evo Team

Yeah black frames are faster
Although not faster that red frames. Obviously.
Whatever you do, don't get a black and red bike. The red parts will be faster than the black parts and give you all sorts of handling problems.Basso Astra

unless your getting a Bianchi then colour doesn't mattera Bianchi is for life... not just for christmas0

I'm fluo yellow at the front and black at the back. Both in satin.
Whatever you look at and smile is right for you - just steer clear of some of those 'my little pony' colours.
