Cycling Glasses

My trusty Bloc cycling glasses are getting a bit past it so I've decided to invest in a new pair. I could always just buy another pair of Bloc, but I thought I'd see what people thought on decent reasonably priced protective eyewear.

I had a money off voucher towards a pair of Oakley glasses, but to be honest I could bail out Greece and still have some change instead. V. nice kit though. 8)

On a related tack, "The Rules" insist that the stems of glasses go OVER helmet straps, but that doesn't make sense to me. Having them under the straps helps them to stay on over bumpy patches.

Mind you, "The Rules" say a lot of stuff.

Bolle, although at £6 they might be a bit steep for you :)

These are fantastic. I've been using them for years. The clarity is excellent and although there's only a slight tint, they're great even on the brightest of days, as they cut out glare rather than just darken everything. (I wouldn't use them skiing though !!)

I got another pair FOC from teh Bolle rep at this years SHE show (dull boring health and safety stuff) and the Bolle rep told me that they come off the same production line as the sporting lenses, but are tested to higher standards. They're cheaper than the sporting glasses, by a considerable amount, because Joe public will happily spend ££ on sunnies, but Mr H&S manager won't spend £££ on safety glasses.

For someone that's happy with a set of Aldi plastic things, I can't help but feel these look an order of magnitude better - never mind just twice as good!

I strongly agree! They cost too much for what they do! Rather spend the money on kit for the bike. I have a bolle an its great! it looks cool and even in rain it is clear. All for £11 of ebay.

Despite most of The Rules, I think there's a real reason for this one.

If you're going to smash your face into the ground, would you prefer it if your sunglasses fell off easily, or were securely held in place?

Having said that, I put mine under the straps otherwise they go flying off when I hit big bumps.

I also find it easier to remove/replace them en route if they are over the top of the helmet straps.

My glasses tend to go over my straps, because I usually put my helmet on first. That said, it's a ball ache when I take my helmet off, because it usually comes off before my glasses !
