I was hoping Horner would do well. He looked very thin at the start and has had good form. But yeah, he should've been put in an ambulance, not on a bike.

Even the most informed Armstrong haterz like Horner. I think he's probably one of the most talented guys out of the US.

Yep agree with that, think we saw the Armstrong hatred extension being displayed by emadden yesterday when he said he couldnt give a sh*te about his welfare..............this coming from a cycling fan as well
Moray give it a rest... I think you will find I did not say I couldnt give a sh*te about his welfare. I said, I dont give a sh*te about Horner. You can interpret it whatever way you want, but dont start pontificating about something I didnt say.

Given what happened yesterday I can quite understand how how your comments were construed in the way that they were! When I read it, I was surprised that someone calling themself a cycling fan could say something like that about an injured cyclist.
Cannondale Supersix 105 2013- summer bike - love it!
    Cannondale CAAD12 - racing fun!
Trek Crockett 5 - CX bike, muddy fun!
Scott Scale 940 MTB XC racer.

As I said, stop trying to read more into what I actually said. You've got it wrong if you think I would wish a person harm. I dislike Horner and Im entitled to have that opinion. Similarly, Im not gutted that he may/may not continue in the tour (i.e. my initial comment).

iI its ok with you I think i will reserve the right to take your comments they way i think they were intended. I thought they were ridiculous thing for a cycling fan to say anyway they say more about you than i could hope to so lets move on.

I think the scene at the end of that clip says it all. As he's being shoved into an ambulance
    he asks "did I finish?"

Pity about this as I was really hoping he would produce a great tour at 40 as he is well capable of. I hope he recovers well enough to do well later in the year.

Fair enough, I have spoken at length with him several times in the States and he is in my opinion a very good guy who is easy to warm to and makes time for everyone.

I guess it's a 'pride' thing - it must be such a professional 'high' to ride in the Tour - IF you thought you could ride through the pain, would you? I suspect that these guys are made of sterner stuff than us mere mortals.

Why is it up to the rider to make that decision? Does a boxer decide whether he's OK to fight on or not? No, because being hit on the head does not lead to sensible decisions.

I don't know if the race doctor has the power to withdraw riders or not, but if he hasn't, maybe that's something that should be considered.

I think the difficulty can be spotting concussion - I listened to a debate about rugby union with some very informed opinion all about concussion on the field and how they have set questions that the doctor asks them - name, date of birth, what stadium they were playing in, the score etc - and even then doctors struggle to spot it in the heat of the moment. Think it was Matt Dawson who admitted he had played a full game and has no recollection from about 20 mins onwards after a big hit.

Let's face it, team doctors haven't got the best track record of considering rider's health first.

Horner isn't so bad. I've seen it a lot of times (once myself). You get to realise it's not really that big a deal in the long run (as long as it's not frequent). Usually we just take the wee-wee.
Are you a neurologist? No, I didn't think so.

If Horner was properly assessed preferrably by a Tour Dr using an acceptable protocol and then allowed to continue then OK. Otherwise he should be pulled out. A concussed person or team DS is not a competent person to make that decision.

Agreed. It's pretty easy to establish (usually) if they've hit their head or not.
