I know people like to watch the highlights and stuff - but let's face it - this is big news in the UK and no matter where you go today, people will be talking about it.
Will it really change your life to know before watching the highlights?
ha, don't know about your workplace but in mine they don't even know the tour is on - big news to cycling fans in the UK maybe. Apart from seeing it mentioned here I didn't see any othe reference to the tour until I watched the 7pm highlights.
So people wouldn't mind being told a major part of a book or movie they are reading/watching?
Also Bob is hardly new to forums so not some newbie mistake. Anyway it is now old news.0 -
and another +1 to brin and above.
Came home from work early, watched it and didn't feel the need to go on line and catch spoilers or spoil for others. It's cycling news, don't go on here and expect not to see it...
Perhaps those in employment and watching the highlights could avoid logging on for a couple of hours or something.
After all, it is only the biggest bike race in the world.Ecrasez l’infame0 -
Just out of curiosity, has the thread title been changed? It's now showing a clear enough spoiler alert - well, it's clear enough for me. What was the original title for people to be getting upset about?0
-
Just so you all know Voeckler wins tomorrow, Horner didn't start and Lance Armstrong isn't racing this year."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0
-
Have to agree with the comments about checking on here at all if you are trying to avoid any news, why not give the whole forum a miss let alone the pro section as waiting a few hours until you've seen the days racing can't hurt surely? I hardly think the op was purposely out to ruin your day, probably just as passionate about the race as you all are.0

"Wiggins crashes out of Tour" or something like that.
Did catch me out, but you're always taking a risk when you're on a cycling website, so I can't really complain.
Was a little surprised to see it on cake stop - then again, I'd chat about it over cake.0 -
Jeesus....dont come onyo a pro race cycling forum if you dont want to find out what happened eh?! Are you guys that are complaining for real or what? :shock:0

Err, it was posted in Cake Stop. If he was that excited about telling everyone about what had happened, there's a place in the forum for that called "Pro Race".
Whenever I talk to any of my cycling mates about racing, particulaly at this time of year, I make the assumption that they may not have seen it. I don't see why cyclists using a forum should be any different. And i don't think the OP did it deliberately, he did change the title after all.0 -

Strange.
I agree, it's just fake outrage.
Bradley Wiggins abandoning the TdF is history, what other bits of history do want shielding from?
loose.
Hold on, I remember you whining about the exact same thing last year!!
In case you hadn't got it yet, if you are desperate to watch later, avoid all cycling websites to be sure.
This is a cycling news website, people can talk about that in this forum."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -

Yeah - I get the idea - I just have to accept that there are enough numpties around who are so full of themselves that they can't post a thread with a title like 'TdF Friday - big news (spoilers)"; it has to be OMG BRAD HAS CRASHED OUT WOW!!!!!!.
It's not rocket science to expect people to want to access some parts of the forum without being told the score but if you want to discuss it, allude to something major in the title. That's all. Pretty easy, everyone can be happy that way.
Or are you also one of those people who walks in on someone who's Sky-Plussed a big match and says something like 'you gotta see Rooneys winner 4 minutes from time, Superb overhead kick. You gotta see it". Or maybe you see someone buried in a book and have to reveal the plot twist, or etc etc... You get the idea. At risk of repeating myself, why does the Saturday night news bulletin on BBC1 just before MoTD always include the phrase 'look away now'... Could it be that they want people to watch their news, but have the decency to recognise that giving away the scores to people who may be trying to avoid them isn't a good way to go about it? I dunno. Don't much care now.
It's about recognising that not all of us can sit at work watching live feeds over the net, or that blurting out big news in a thread title isn't the cleverest way to go about things. Do I care? Not really. I was spitting mad yesterday but it's yesterday's news now.
As for Max Bygraves spotting that the same thing happened last year, I expect it did. All that proves is that despite every forum I've looked at having the concept of Spoiler tags & titles that allude to but don't give the game away, it seems there are some who can't wait to prove that they can be first with the news. Yeah I was annoyed then; I was annoyed yesterday. I'm not bothered now, just more bothered that apparently I'm the bad guy now for wishing that people just had that bit of common sense & manners not to shout out a result without warning, in a place where you'd hope not to find it. I hear what you're saying though. I'll keep off the internet after 2:30 for the next couple of weeks. It's the only way.

Fair enough but as was pointed out brad crashing wasnt the result, it was an incident in a race, a talking point, and all the OP did was...well...talk about it. And to be fair if people hadnt seen the crash then they had no idea where the crash happened, how bad it was or whether any other riders crashed so the race still had some interest apart from the fact that cav, greipel, petacchi, farrar, feillu, hushovd still had 40k to go for it.
I dont think people have marked you down as the bad guy it's just that like in the stage itself people make mistakes and what else can you expect in the sport of professional bike racing. The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns

Ah, thanks. I'm not one of those who hide from the news to create a sense of watching things ''as they happen'' - I find watching ''how they happened'' is just as rewarding, if not more rewarding.
Still, other people clearly don't see it the same way so the original title was a tad brutal.0 -
Dry you're eye's ya big bunch of girl's blouse's!
Thought cyclists were meant to be "Hard Men"0 -
Went to my girlfriends house yesterday, asked her mum if she'd seen the stage, simply said "it's eventful".
Girlfriend blurts out "yeh, Wiggins has abandoned and Cav won!"
I might go out with her mum instead."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

Yes, there's nothing like a nob (collective noun) of whining sports fans bleating on about a TdF spoiler to put things like African drought, NotW phone scandal, bankers' bonuses and other similarly trivial global events into perspective... :x
Get out more. But let us know where so we can avoid you all...Litespeed Tuscany, Hope/Open Pro, Ultegra, pulling an Extrawheel trailer, often as not.
FCR 4 (I think?)

That's the thing though, it wasn't a thread telling you who'd won, so your Rooney analogy is, frankly, guff.
If you want to make a comparison to football, it would be akin to someone who has seen the match before you mentioning that Scholes makes an awful tackle. Part of what you are likely to see, but hardly likely to give anything away or spoil the outcome.
Ironically, with you berating those who have time to watch it over those who are 'working', what were you doing surfing a forum if you were so busy?
I believe the word is precious.0 -

Maybe they were complaining about a TdF spoiler because;
A; They don't live in Africa, so the hose pipe ban there doesn't affect them
B; Don't buy the NotW so have never supported the poohouse tactics used by their journalists and consequently don't care about the scandal.
C; Understand that the bankers negotiated theirselves a good deal at point of employment and are not responsible for the dimwit who agreed their terms and ultimately don't care.
In summary, it is perfectly reasonable to expect that people don't spoil the result of the TdF stages.
Incidentally I didn't manage to get a paper on the way to work this morning so can you all please refrain from spoiling any further news on how Cheryl Cole's marriage make up is going as I would like to read it for myself when I get in0 -
ITV4 Player too temperamental, paid for Eurosport Player and the commentators are s***.
Swings and roundabouts.
