Just been told by the quack that i have shingles- I only have the rash and none of the other symptoms-luckily.
Is it o.k to carry on training? i forgot to ask the doc. the rash is only on the side ofmy body and only about 2 inches of it.

I had shingles about 6wks ago and it had no effect on my training apart from a little discomfort.
I just had a line of spots from my nipple to my spine, they took about a week to dry up and the only thing effected was sleep because it felt like i had bruised ribs.
It still aches now and again and apparently this may continue for upto 6 mths.

Last year in March I had chicken pox. They say it can be bad in adults. Some people hardly get any symptoms, some become severely ill.

As I'm self employed I don't get flu, just a heavy cold and get on with it etc

I can happily say I have never felt so ill in my adult life!

Being covered from head to toe and EVERYWHERE in between with spots was the easy bit.
For one week I had terrible pain in my chest that gradually reduced to a small area, thought I was having a heart attack at one stage. Zero and i mean zero energy. Bed to chair. chair to bed. for one week. No sleep for three days and nights due to the pain and malaise. Aching everywhere. Calamine lotion and dust everywhere.
Yet the following week the recovery, once it started, was remarkably quick.
But what a hell of a week it was. Then looked like a leper for the next week, couldn't shave for the spots / scabs etc too.

So apparently once you've had CP the next step, if you get it, is shingles. How nice!

I still have brief outbreaks 40 years on after the shingles that started it :(

Yeah the doc told me the virus never leaves the body, and if I over exert again it could come back. Git.

My wife was pregnant when she had shingles.

We had booked a mountaineering weekend away from our other lad, and she started with the sysmptoms Friday morning, so she had a couple of fairly hard days on the hill with the shingles.

She came down with a chest infection and was off work for two weeks afterwards!

I'd take it steady if I weere you. Shingles can be very nasty indeed, and you don't want to knock yourself up. I think the advice about seeing how your body reacyts is good advice.

Thanks all,I feelo.k in myself-a little run down but that's more than likely from spending 3 days doing sweet f.a.
I finish my tablets tomorrow and the rash has almost gone-sounds like i got off lightly.
Not been near the bike but will try a spin on the rollers later.

Ive got them now. Had a diagnosis on Thursday past. Into second day of medication. Quite a bit of pain and discomfort around the nipple and under my arm and round to the back. Everything I wear irritates the hell out of it. Even bedding is intolerable. I'll stay off the bike until it's a bit better.

Take it easy, like being rubbed with sand paper while you sleep.

Used to get it a lot in my 20's no idea why though it affected my 30's big time as I ran a half marathon with shingles which was rather stupid in hindsight.

    Bloody typical.

I came down with shingles again this week. My 40th birthday week too. Did a solid 90 mile social ride on Sunday and by Tuesday my right leg to my torso was itching with the sandpaper feel like mental. Down the Doc's but I knew what it was - even got to my left ear. A couple of days being banned from work, feet up, went to the video shop and got a load of films out. Desperate to get out on the bike, but being sensible.

Mentally feel fine. I think its work related as had 15 days off in 18 months and finally caught up with me

When I saw the thread title I thought Sean Connery was after some unattached young ladies.
