New to road bikes

Hi all.

Just got my new bike (Specialized Allez Comp) and been out on it a couple of times but finding I am getting tired quickly. I have been riding Mtb on roads and think I may be pushing a bit hard too early and getting puffed out. Should i push myself till I get puffed out then stop or should I look to ride more gently and build up slowly?

If I want to build general speed and endurance should I just ride more and for longer?

Look forward to hearing your points of view.

I'd say that's the best approach for now.........certainly until you adapt to the new riding position of a road bike. Just get some miles in and enjoy it for now.

Don't try and push big gears at the moment. Keep your cadence up. Look at the pros: they mostly keep the revs high and don't look like they're having to stamp on the pedals to get them to go round.
After you've got a few miles in your legs I'd try some intervals.

    For example:

20 mins warm up, ride hard for 30 seconds then easy for 5 minutes and repeat 3 times. After a while you can increase the duration of the hard parts and decrease the duration of the recovery parts, as well as increasing the number of sets. But as Bronzie wrote, get those miles in.
