grew up near taunton but currently live down in mid devon. I regularly ride from tiverton up over bampton, wiviliscombe, taunton. then back through wellington, willand to halberton and tiverton. the loop is about 48mile and despite the hills feels pretty fast. we do this alot as wednesday night ride. the wellington side is abit dull, but the wiviliscombe bit is lovely

from taunton I would think about hammering out to williton and then back up towards cannington and bridgwater and back through the lanes to taunton, if you came back via enmore hill it'd be a very good workout0 -

I commute every day from Uffculme, the usual route I take is Uffculme - Culmstock - Black Water Lane - Culm Davey - Merry Harriers - Blagdon Hill - Trull
I usually come back on the A38 to L @ Peamore X nr Wellington, then Nicholasheign, Culmstock, Uffculme
In the other direction, take the A361 as far as Greinton then go to Street via the A39. To come back get on the B3151 to Somerton then to Langport. Then get on the A378 to and through Curry Rivel. At the T with the traffic lights go R onto the A358 and you'll hit Taunton at the M way junction
On this route the A361 and the A378 aren't busy but the short bit of A358 is
The longest climb in the area is the B3170 from the motorway up to the Crossroads, 7km with 260 metres ascent.
Somerset Road Club meet either in the town centre or at the Creech Castle and do 50 mile ish rides every sunday morning. I haven't ridden with them for a few years. When I did they were only interested in racing and time trials - but maybe they've changed since then.0 -
