ITV4 or Eurosport for the Tour?

Working most of the time, so obviously im left with the Highlights. Spend a lot of time watching cycling on eurosport, just feels normal, a bit like home, i enjoy the commentary and the banter. I have seen some of the tour series on ITV4 and can say i cant stand the team, i cant even warm to Boardman, think he's a bit of a turd personally. However i need consistency, how many times during the last couple of months have i turned on Eurosport to watch the cycling, and found that its been cancelled, delayed for hours, or theres some Sh*t ''sport'' like tractor pulling eating into what should be an hour of cycling and ends up being 20 minutes?

Which will you be watching?

I'm able to watch live, so Eurosport.

But if I couldn't watch live, I'd probably choose the ITV4 highlights and >>FF through the adverts and waffle.

I enjoy Boulting and Boardman, but have had my fill of Phil and Paul, so I sort of scan through the ITV stuff. Eurosport are far less polished, in terms of production of highlights, it's usually just the last hour or so, but I much prefer the views of Harmon and Kelly to go with the race.

GF much prefers Phil & Sherwan ( I know!) so it'll be ITV4 for me (though I might watch the live Eurosport feed recorded later when she's in the bath)

Talking of Boulting and Boardman, they're on Radio 5's Tour preview tonight 8.30-9.30 (seems a week too early, but there you go).

Doesn't the Eurosport coverage start earlier than ITV4 or did I make that up?

With Eurosport you get much better quality ads...

Also, the ad breaks are very, very short.

Can't wait for the latest Sidi installment.

    Live = Eurosport
Highlights programme = ITV4 for the Ned and Matt bits but not the racing as I can't stand hearing P+P.

    positives
ES - David Harmon - The best in the business IMHO, great insight from S Kelly too
I like the 'behind the scenes' pieces like Planet Armstrong and the Astana bit from the Giro
    More direct race coverage

ITV - regular highlights slot each day
Phil & Paul still know their onions
I Like Ned B, and I'm enjoying his book at the moment

    negatives
ES - They are hostage to whatever other sport is on, but the TdF is their bigest annual production I think so it may bump other sports off air
ITV - Sometimes goes a bit off-piste, with not enough actual racing coverage.

However, there'll be plenty to watch whichever way you go.

Me too, but being the cheapskate that I am, I'll be watching on ITV with the sound turned down and hopefully finding a Eurosport audio feed off Cyclingfans. Hopefully there won't be too much of a delay between the two!

Eurosport for live, ITV tend to be better for highlights as they do some editing whereas ES just show the last hour in its entirity so you can miss any early action, this bugs me a bit on the mountain stages in particular. That said I normally go by whichever has the best timing to suit when I can watch.

If you want to hear about big Lance, big George and that amazing bottle that opens both sides ..... ITV4 is the place.

If you good commentary with exceptional insight (Kelly) .... then Eurosport.

Wish there could be a combo of ITV coverage with Eurosport commentary - that'd be my "dream team" of Harmon/Kelly on the mic, with Imlach/Boulting/Boardman doing the studio/report bits.

For all the 40-something nostalgia I still have of the early days of Ch4 coverage, the Phil & Paul Show (AKA The Chuckle Brothers) now drives me mental, with the seemingly unending 5-minute loop about how "Big George, Big Jens and Denny Menchov are doing a Job Of Work Putting The Hurt On the peleton, and how maybe Tom Danielson can be the next Lance in the Sport of Professional Bike Racing. Lance Lance Lance." (repeat)

If nowt else, I'd love to see Boardman's reaction when they came back off a break and the latest Sidi insanity :D

Big "Tommy" Danielson is riding too ??? - I cant stand the chuckle bother`s (Liggett & Team Sherwin) they are so americanised now it`s not funny.

This is spot on. Ideally the studio from ITV and commentary from Eurosport. I'll be recording Eurosport Live and the ITV highlights and only watching the studio parts from ITV.

Really can't stand Phil & Paul, but then there's always a risk that Carlton will get to speak on Eurosport.

Harmon + Kelly or Big Maggy ftw.

Eurosport for me. Too many ad breaks on ITV and poor old Phil and Paul's double act is getting a bit tiresome.

Eurosport for the first week whilst we're in the UK, after that ITV4 as we'll be in France and that's all we'll have access to.

Er, France Televisions? It's the best coverage there is.
