Mine definitely has.

The weather for cycling in 2011 so far has been crap, no buts about it. It just seems to be windy all the time and the only variation is windy and rainy , unless you live in SE England.

I only hope the forecast for a roaster in july comes to fruition so as I can get some serious time in on the bike, but knowing the weather forecasters and accuracy, Id probably be best advised to not get my hopes up too high.

Yes, in a word. Four actually. No wait...
    Purveyor of "up" :)
  • Not at all. Since I'm a wus and don't go out in the rain my milage this year has been above average because it's been so dry.

Wind doesn't bother me really although I did get to work a lot quicker than usual in the calm conditions today.

Definitely agree with that. Here in the North West we have got rain almost everyday. Not to mention the wind... Hopefully, today and yesterday evening were very sunny. I have got depressed when I'm off bike for too long (>2 days).

I was thinking we have been quite lucky with the cycling weather, here in the south, have managed to get out quite a lot. Been ruined a couple of days, this is what my garmin has recorded since Jan 1st up to today:

I would say only Christmas and the month of May has been bad for cycling. The first week into June still carried bad winds but on the whole it has been drier than normal if occasionally chilly.

Areas are having droughts and in the NW the reservoirs are pretty low considering this region sees a lot of rainfall to fill them - so cant complain as long as the wind doesn't return now!

Took a while to get going after Christmas but it's been alright since then, although it does seem to have been windy for as long as I can remember.

+1, I am ahead of where I am usually this time of year due to so much dry weather here.

Hasnt cut down my weekend rides but i've been doing alot less evening or early morning rides during the week than i would if the weather was drier, warmer and brighter.

No, I can't really blame the weather this year. I have made more of an effort to just go out regardless though as I run my hack into the ground (in order to justify a new bike).

Illness has been my main reason for fewer miles than I'd hoped for this year.
Came down with Chicken Pox - which absolutely floored me - and then probably returned to work while still run down/ imune system depleted and promptly caught a stinker of a cold.

My mileage has suffered big time. I'd like to pretend that I'm really hardcore, but it's a hobby, and I don't get much enjoyment from riding into a howling gale, or in pouring rain.

I want to move to France when I finish uni.

Just checked my records, since Jan I clocked 3751 miles. Which is a huge jump from what I did last year... its getting more addictive and more fun day by day.

Have ridden 130 miles in 8 hours last Sunday and it was raining all the time - it was slow, cold and tiring... but loved every minute of it.

One last note, during the big freeze end of last year, I was out on a ride around Surrey about 5am... felt thirsty, went for the bottle and realised that the water was frozen... had to suck snow to hydrate myself... but again, loved it...

I am 32, been riding for only few years and never done any sport in my life and still rubbish on the hills!

No, 2450 miles done so far, its been windier than recent years but round here we are officially in drought so i havent got wet for about three months now, might beat my best year total of 5166 miles at this rate.
  • Yes, but added to that a new daughter and work, my mileage is well down. Still enjoy getting out, but like today, I've got the kids until I go to work and childminder gets here. Last year, son would have been in nursery and I'd have been out.

Nope, not at all, my monthly mileages are well above average, and have raced at least twice a week since the end of March 8)

Apart from a bit more wind, weathers been just as good this year as it always has, certainly nothing in my neck of the woods that could possibly stop you riding.

    2010 - 478.37miles - 37hrs 20mins - 11,819ft - 12.8mph - 27,155c

    2011 - 2,204.04miles - 155hrs 34mins - 69,780ft - 14.2mph - 106,904c

Although I got my bike last year, I really didnt start properly riding until 1st Jan this year due to spending most of last year decorating my house. Most of my rides are around 16-17mph now over 50 miles so got to be happy with that.

March, April and May were fantastic - felt like the best prolonged dry/warm spell in recent years. April was ridiculously windy. June has been pretty crap this year, tending to be sunny on days when I'm working, and raining on the days off. It's far harder to motivate yourself to cycle in the wet when you're feeling tired.

    Jan: 812mi - working
    Feb: 762mi - working
    Mar: 1,202mi - studying
    Apr: 1,253mi - studying
    May: 1,213mi - studying
    Jun: 327mi - working :(

No, I ride in all weathers. I was even riding to work in the snow, well until it got too deep

My mileage this year is greater than the same time last year. As Danowat says, since the snow has left there hasn't been any weather really bad enough to stop riding.

Work has knackered my training/racing this year, not the weather.

Now I'm full of snot, and supposed to be riding a time trial tonight and road race tomorrow night. :(

I'm not gonna live in England, have an outdoors pastime AND complain when the weather isn't quite right.

I ride all through winter so I'm not really fussed by a bit of rain or wind in these months. And it's character building. Get the right gear and the right attitude and as long as the conditions aren't dangerous (ice, strong gales) then - barring injury or illness - you're good to go.

Free the mind and the legs will follow; mileage unaffected.
