(SPOILERS if you haven't seen it)

Wow! Few things to discuss:

OK firstly as I type this they've just stopped the race under the (possibly first) red flag. I wasn't too sure about them bringing out the safety car before there was an accident but given the rain that lead to a red flag, for safety sake I'm glad they did.

Is it me or are the presenters a little catty with each other. When Eddie was discussing the lack of traction on the paint, Coulthard appeared to shoot the point down. Then the other chap mentioning Couthard 24hr Le Mans disqualification....

Anyway...

HAMILTON

Now look, I like(d) Hamilton but I'm getting tied of the foolhardy aggression, he ain't Ayrton Senna - he doesn't have the charisma and by and large he is looking more a rank amateur than skillful driver.

I felt sorry for Webber, who gave him space. Schumacher - the slowest fast guy - drove him off the road. Then he crashed trying to overtake button where there wasn't any space. Yes Lewis had pace on Button but the gap wasn't big enough for his car to get through, yes you create space/force the gap but Lewis was too far behind Button to do so and Button (IMO) rightly closed the gap and Lewis ended up in the wall. (All Button has to do - which he will do - is say he didn't see him)

I honestly think Lewis' car could have been repaired but his powers that be pulled him from the race by way of false information about the damage.

Lewis hasn't been the same driver since he sacked his Dad as Manager and, personally, I think it might serve him well to leave the paternal coddling of McLaren, join a new team and build it around him. It'll never happen and there isn't a "big" title contender team for him to join.

Kamui Kobayashi is now my favourite that slide was the things dreams were made of.

    I know nothing about F1

I'm pretty sure you don't mean Monaco in the thread title though.

As an aside, have you ever tried racing a car (any car that is), fast around a race track?

Then try it in the wet with loads of cars around you, and with a car that is not at it's best in the wet. Add in a frustrated driver who wants to make progress as quick as possible, and this is a recipe for accidents to happen.

Hamilton is still one of the best F1 drivers on the grid, far more talented than Kobayashi, though to be honest they are all very talented. Lewis is in a car that is slower than a Red Bull, if you want to win (and he has won this year), you need to drive it hard, and sometimes you will drive over the limit, or constantly finish behind the Red Bulls.

Or not finish at all....

As I said I like Lewis, what I'm getting frustrated at is not the car's inability to win it's his increasing inability to make good judgement calls. I don't care how good you are or how crap your car is, if you can't keep you head you're no good to anyone.

He couldn't keep his head he seems to have lost his composure. He was too eager to go which is why he broke the speed limit while behind the safety car. Presumably Button did the same keeping pace with Lewis. Then the Webber, then Schumacher and then Button.

I remember watching a documentary about him. Back in his karting days he was loosing his kart was slow, he was sulking and Dad had to give him a serious talking too. His Dad bascially told him that if he doesn't tell him clearly what's wrong he can't fix the Kart and make it better. It was the kinda talking to only a Father can give a son. Seems to me that for all his frustration and increasing entourage and celebrity girlfriends, he needs that the most. Back to grass roots and basics.

On Kobayashi. I'm aware of who is the best like other sports I don't need to support the best, I support the person or the team that I like that appeals to me. There are drivers clearly faster than Kobayashi, doesn't mean you can't like him though.

I did a Silverstone Drive day and part of that was a few laps in an open wheeled car (can't remember what formula) in the rain. Even at about 20 mph you could barely see the flashing red light of the car in front.

Throw in trying to pass or not be passed by other cars and the much higher speeds and it would be driving by memory.

Kowboy is just about everyone's favourite driver right now. Hard charging and great car control.

Lewis is trying too hard, but, as Brundle said, other than first laps overtakes, he has made more than 10% of all the overtakes this season. You can't have it both ways, both steady and agressive.

Its still dryer there than it was when I was out riding last week!

DDD until you are in the same pressure environment as him, and the same mega desire to win, it is hard to say how to handle the situation.

I would like him to not hit other drivers, but I am not in that situation so cannot even begin to think of what it must be like. If you try and overtake drivers with limit visibility there is a chance you will hit someone/something, or get hit by someone else. It is just a risk of racing.

As for the speed limit behind the safety car, and the fact Button had the same issue, I would expect this to be a McLaren software issue to be honest, they have a target time to aim for on the steering wheel, if this is wrong then it is easy for the driver to go too fast. They don't have a speedo to tell them how fast they are going.

As for getting stroppy when in karting, that is kids full stop. I see it in cycling, some people are stroppy, some are forever cheerful. You can't really judge attitudes from childhood behaviour IMO.

I think Kobayashi is fantastic to watch as well, great little overtaker :D
  • I'd never seen one of those red-winged blackbirds before - well , you can only watch the rain for so long - so I checked it on Wikipedia after Coulthard identified is as a red-shouldered blackbird. Somebody had already logged the Wikipedia entry as ''David Coulthard's favourite bird.''

    Still raining....

Hamilton has always struggled to drive with his head for sure. Even before this season he had a history of questionable decision making - look at his move into the first corner at Suzuka in 2008, or his failure to make the call on tyres in China the previous year. Then there's the lying incident in 2009, which showed really poor sporting instincts.

I like the aggressive overtaking, but it's not true to say you can't have that without having the flaws that Lewis has.

Do I need to ride the Tour to be able to comment on professional cyclists, do I need to be an actor or director to comment on a film or a performance? Do I need be a politician to comment on how much I dislike a politician. Should I only ever discuss topics I have a direct experience in. Never fought aliens, don't talk about Sci-Fi....

Never have a conversation with football fans.

Fan's have opinions about the sport they follow. They share those views and discuss them. I don't need to be an F1 driver to have a view, to share it and discuss it. Maybe it's wrong or maybe I'm right. I think, however, like everyone else on the planet I am entitled to discuss my views.

Yes you can, there are behavioural traits eveyone takes from childhood into adulthood.

    Sheesh... tough crowd.
