Turbo trainers - rim or tyre resistance?

What is better? Turbo trainers that make contact with the tyre, or the ones that have rollers on the rim of the wheel?

I can imagine that the wheel rim ones don't wear the tyre as much and means you don't need a trainer tyre fitted, but do they offer the same feel as riding on the road?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

No turbo trainer feels like riding on the road! Rim drive turbos are quieter though.
