Now have the new seat post fitted and have had steerer tube cut down. As a result it's now down to 7.45kg but I'm going to continue to work on that.

Within the next week I will definitely get my friend's dslr and take some proper pics. I was just wanting to wait until these two tweaks were done.

EDIT. Posted wrong pic last night. Correct one up now

Please put the chain in the Big Ring like NappyD said. Small rings look pussy.

What frame is this related to? Is it the Ribble Stealth/De Rosa R838/Pedalforce whatever?

It looks great, looks fast. With some light wheels it's be around 7kg for sure.

What did the bare frame weigh?

I had the chain on the big ring for the whole ride, apart from when I took that pic as I had to ride up a steep hill to get there. Forgot to put it back on the big one when I got to the top!

I believe the Fm028 is unique. Similar to more than one frame, but identical to none.

Frame was 1156g out of the box. Fork was 401g uncut. Now it's cut as short as I can get it it must be a bit lighter, but don't know how much.

I want to get it to under 6.8kg and whilst I will have to change the wheels at some point to do that I want to find as many other ways to lose weight first cos I love the wheels and don't want to have to put non-aero, low profile rims on!

Been there, done that, gone back.

If you are wanting to save weight, look elsewhere...

I think that you are overestimating the weight anyway...

Had the planet x ones, they look great and work OK but just don't have the power of proper dual pivots for a fatty like me.

Not a problem on a circuit racing / TT machine though.

+1 for this... The Force brakes are very good, much better than the PX ones.

Looks much better with the new seat post - congrats on a great looking bike!!

Don't change the wheels just to save a few grams - they look the business!

  • it does look flair. if you were going to swing away from deep sections rims, you would have to get the 2009 Fulcrum Racing 1s, with the fat bladed spokes. I just got some, they looks the nuts!

Frame and forks about £350 delivered.
    Wheels about £350 delivered.
    Group set £620
Then just googled for best prices on bars, stem, seat post etc... but these were just to get it built and on the road. I'm now into upgrade mode so it will end up having cost a fortune by the time I'm finished but at I'll be selling the bits I take off.

    Apologies
    Bar tape needs re-doing.
    Mis-matched tyres

I've made some changes over the winter so though I'd repost. Unfortunately cash has been needed elsewhere so changes are largely cosmetic:

    - New seat post. (logos removed)
    - New saddle. (logos removed and refinished
    - Paint removed from Ritchey wet black stem. Now matte black
    - Paint removed from Ritchey wet black handlebars. Now matt black
    - Silver stem face plate refinished matte black
    - Brooks honey leather bar tape

    Planned future changes
    - Possibly logo removal from group set but still undecided
    - Logo removal on bottle cages
    - Fibre lyte chainrings
    - Tune and fit the Sram Red rear derailleur I bought
    - Replace silver front derailleur clamp with a carbon one.
    - New wheels. Possibly Lightweight Standard III
    - Get a Campagnolo front derailleur with a carbon cage
    - New handlebars

really interested in your build mate

did you have any issues with importing the frame etc ? did they hit you for import tax if so how much trying to work out how to get me a decent well built spec'd bike like yours for the right money

also hows the frame holding up months on ?

No problems importing the frame at all. The customs forms were marked as a low value and I didn't pay any duty at all.

The frame is holding up well. No cracks, the finish looks godd and it hasn't melted or dissolved which is good!

I'd have gone black bar tape but gone for some natural sidewall tyres, but it's the nicest 'chinese' build I've seen, good work sir :)

    +1

it would look incredible with natural sidewall tyres... not that it doesn't already look superb!
  • I love this. Really like the futurustic matt black finishing, and carbon wheels. It looks like a bike out of a futuristic film or something. Really nice build, well done.

I must be the black sheep because it looks really bland to me, some colour is needed. All personal preference of course.

Less is more... especially when most bikes are of the 'more is more' variety.

+1. Particularly when so many people are doing stealth black bikes that look all the same - they are getting as bad as red, white and black bikes! This one looks a bit different and almost entirely down to the bar tape!
