It's the big one - flat 200km then the climb of the Finestre followed by the climb to Sestriere

Russ Downing started with the others today and is hoping to be able to make it to the finish. The length of the stage means the time limit will be quite generous today and since he should be able to make it to the bottom of the Sestriere with the main group then hopefully he will be starting tomorrow too.

Current situation - a group of 13 have roughly 10 minutes advantage at about 80km. The 13 are

Betancourt, Vicioso, Minguez, Vorganov, Ulissi, Salerno Kiryienka, Lang, Jufre Pou, Mazzanti, Seeldrayers, Popovych e Veuchelen.

http://www.gazzetta.it/Speciali/Girodit ... 1344.shtml

so no Garzelli who will be looking to keep his mountains jersey.

Nibali has had a crash today but is back up and racing. Maybe will affect him later on though?

As i've said before, Russ Downing has always been a favourite of mine but he's now gone even further up in my estimation.

Bring on the Finestre..though I doubt much will happen till the final climb unfortunately. Contador for the stage win.

Got to love the finestre - unless you're racing up it. What a climb.

Great Giro for Kruijswijk. Never even heard of him before, but he's been getting better and better as the Giro has gone on.

Liquigas are perennial party poopers. Nibali going to attack on the descent? Zzzzzz. It didn't work the previous 28 times, why is it going to work now?

So far, this is all a bit "safe" compared to 2005.
Contador hanging around the back................which makes me think he may soon be off the front.
Yep, the young Dutchman has gone one better than last year. He could wrench the YRJ from Kreuziger.

To be fair, in 2005 there Savoldelli only had 90s worth of lead, Simoni and Rujano were both off the front with a real chance to win the Giro with Di Luca along for some pocket money.

Savoldelli pulled out that amazing descent to save it. Not wanting to bunch everyone's panties again, this race lacks any sort of suspense. Bert doesn't have to ride, nobody will attack him either.

The helicopter shots are mental! I want to ride that road!

Contador is waiting, he is going to brutally attack with 1k to go...

Russel downing, fell down a ravine and landed in tree foliage...is he a cartoon?

Won't work against Contador, but it might against Scarponi.

Well, that was their plan. Maybe they should have asked Vinny first... he's cooked.
