Sounds like a "Lets slag off Sean & Harmon post" - I`m sure Sean would be the 1st to admit that he`s not the most confident of co-presenters. He`s there as an advisor to Harmon and they both compliment each other. As for some not understanding what he says i have no problem understanding him. Imagine him having the audacity to be born in rural ireland and not having an accent like Boris Johnson. He sure as hell can read a bike race and he knows whats going on. Like other`s have said it`s probably hard for anyone to talk for 4-5 hours each day for 3 weeks.....You should feel lucky some of us had to wait for 3 saturdays in July in the 80`s to ONLY see 20mins on World Of Sport with dickie davies. So is it to be Kelly Or Harmon ..or bring back Duffield and talking about cheese for 30mins as a 6`4" columbian attacks when it`s really a belgian 8)

My mate can read a football match but it doesnt mean he should be co-commentating on Saturdays nights champions league final.

    Well said :)

Absoultely. I'd go so far to say that we're spoiled with Harmon and Kelly compared to other sports I watch (mainly football and athletics).

If he can provide the level of insight that Sean Kelly does, instead of parroting the no doubt completely over the top commentator and coming out with the likes of "I've got to say that to get away with that in such a hostile environment, you've got to count your chickens", then I'd welcome this mate of yours into the chair tomorrow evening.

As to this apparent ignorance of Sean Kelly, at no point did Eurosport offer his surname. Why, then, should someone be supposed to know who he is from his first name and Irish accent?:

Ive been watching cycling for 6 months and ive even noticed the 'Commentators: David Harman and Sean Kelly' Box pop up on Eurosport.

Dont take it too personally though, it seems he was just surprised you didn't know who he was even though you are glued to Eurosport in the summer :)

Yes imagine if before every race you had Harmon and Kelly standing round a table next to the grand depart dressed in undertaker suits like they do on ESPN football, its laughable. THe Eurosport commentary team is far superior to football pundits. Its not a coincidence that the majority of colemanballs in private eye are from football, although I should give an honourable mention to Phil Liggett for his "man with 3 legs from the isle of man" comment during last year's Tour.

I've not heard them recently, but I am curious about how Phil and Paul are going to talk themselves out of their Armstrong love affair.

I think Kelly is a fantastic co-commentaor with his knowledge of the whole pro racing scene. It would be hopeless having someone sat next to Harmon who wants to talk as much as he has to.

Anyway, what's happened to Mike Smith? the "Cheggers" of Eurosport :D

Have to say i dont mind harmon and kelly. People dont realise how difficult commentating is.
I take my hat off to david and sean for their work the day that wouter died and the day after. Thats not easy.
    Fair play to them.

Sean Kelly is a fantastic co-commentator , his insight into racing is second to none , do people really struggle to understand his accent ? I never had a problem with that at all

I tried watching Phil and Paul again after many years and it was a painful experience , surely they weren't always that bad ?

Has anyone mentioned that Harmon seems to do a great job of translating the interviews, whether it be French, Italian or Spanish...I think? Impressive in my opinion.
I think you'll find the the translation is done for him and he reads it out or listens to the voice in his ear and says it slightly later.

Did i forget to tell you that harmon mentioned that bianchi had been making bikes since 1880.
    Lol :D
Ive heard him at least 4 x say that.

I like the fact that harmon regulary comments on how nice a bike looks and how good it is etc etc etc.
You can just know that sean is thinking the old i got paid to ride a bike, i didnt care what it looked like as long as it performed.

I agree. I watched the Tour of Cali on both networks and always settled on ES rather than C4.

Phil is too much of a status quo fence surfing corporate clone. In a way he's too well-known to say anything insightful about behind the scenes. There must be some good stuff he knows but he's too scared or too well paid to bother spilling it. He's Mr Cycling 101 for newbies and it just grates after a while.

I'm just glad the Giro is over b/c those Sidi ads were killing me. How silly, and why do they play them twice per break?
