Knee pain

I have basically taken 5 weeks off of riding, and since I last rode I have:

- Changed the saddle
- Moved it forward slightly
- Kept the height the same (taking into account moving saddle forward)
- Added a left cleat shim.
- Swapped to new pedals (same make/model)

The pain is only very very slight, on the right knee. If looking from above, I guess it is on the left side of the knee cap. I have previously had a bike fit, and kept the basic saddle height etc.. the same as prescribed.

Question: Could a saddle that is to far forward, create knee pain.

Also wondering if the long layoff and then the changes in contact points could mean I am using slightly different muscles, thus I just need to wait for my body to adapt?

Thanks

Did the bike fit consider cleat positioning?

I also know someone that ended up using a set of rollers in front of a full length mirror when he had knee pain. He noticed his knee was pushing out to the side at the top of each stroke and consciously made an effort to keep it inline, which solved his problem.

I personally went to see a physio about my knee pain and he helped me with some exercises and stretches to target parts of my leg that were out of balance and/or needed strengthening.

There are lots of things that can cause knee pain, it can take quite a long time to get to the bottom of it, but you will get there in the end. There's quite a lot of other information about it in this part of the forum if you have a dig around, but I'm sure others will throw their ideas in as well.
