  • To answer tjhe OP's question, about 10%. So if you are relatively normal, i.e have a haemoglobin of say 15g/dl and a haematocrit of 45% ish, with EPO you may get to 175g/dl and 50%, i.e. a 10% relative improvement in each, your oxygen carrying capacity, and hence work capacity (Watts/VAM/whatever) increase by approx 10%. Joe Average would go from 3.5W/kg to a very nice to have 3.9W/kg - not earth shattering, so still in the good-for-a-club ride range. But to go from 4.5 (very good club rider) to 5 (1st cat+), that would make you stand out.
