Very nice build! I bet it rides just as nice!

Colour scheme is very similar to my SX Trail.. so it gets my vote on that alone ;)

Not sure why you think the non drive-side dropout is larger?
Because it's specifically designed that way, as is shown on SRAM's details for frame manufacturers.

Perhaps we are at cross purposes. What measurement are you referring to?

Spec shows both dropouts 16mm thick. Drive-side dropout carries an M12 (12mm) thread, and the non drive-side has a 12.05mm diameter hole, which you'd expect for a 12mm diameter axle. Without the 0.25mm gap this gives you around the axle, you'd never be able to fit the thing.

Essentially it specs a 135mm (or 150mm) long axle of diameter 12mm, with an M12 thread at one end. That's what the superstar item is, except it is retained by a nut rather than the Rear Maxle system.

Nope, the maxle's nominal diameter isnot 12mm. The reason the dropout is larger is to acommodate the expansion in the maxle as it clamps into place.
There is a reason why SRAM say it won't work. There is a reason why Superstar say it won't work. There is a reason I'm saying it won't work.

Was going by the spec diagrams, but if you're saying SRAM and Superstar both say it won't work then I defer.

In fact looking at the pics again, it doesn't look like there's a whole lot of bolt inside the drive-side nut. That could well be explained by it not having enough thread for the dropout+nut if it's not designed for such.
  • glad we have all agreed to disagree now, well i will leave it to the gods to decide if it works now, as long as it doesnt collapse on me whilst riding i will be happy........
next weeks debate is on how to make the perfect pancake :D

    are your drop out replaceable?

hope they are or you will be having a worn out and useless frame in no time.

you may also find the disc brake rubbing to hell as all the loads are put through an aluminium less than 12mm bolt that may even be hollow.

    Dont do it.

  • the bolt through has now gone after i managed to get the little nut for the rear maxle, so all fitted fine and a quick blast................no 3hr slog round gisburn was spot on
also fitted a new set of hope tech x2 brakes but kept my avid rotors and all is well, a big improvement over the juicy 3's, next week off work so a ride to llandegla and whinlatter is deffo on the cards :D
just need the missus to see sense why i would need some new wheels 8)
