I turned on wondering how soon it would be until they mentioned Armstrong. It was within 20 seconds I kid you not.

Was anyone else puzzled at the "tactical move" by Andy Schleck when he went to get some water from the team car?

Phil does seem to like the "Clean Bottle", the water bottle what opens at both ends, brilliant idea, why didn't someone think of it before...

Clean bottle! No more dirty bottles!

That's ingrained on my psyche after watching the Tour last year - the advert was on every break on the Versus coverage.

I'm sure they used to be ok. Between their patronising (and often not even correct) explanation of 'professional cycling' and their fixation on strange things (like this stupid bottle) it drives me mad.

I can let the US bias go a bit, 'cos that's obviously the market they're aiming at, but their standard has dropped a lot.

They're being paid for the bottle thing? Possibly not so bad then... if annoying.

I don't often get irate, but the Big José Rujano or whatever gets annoying and Tommy D got very annoying in the 2km that I watched :P

"Big Jens Voigt, the most popular man in the race" ??? I know he's a legend but since when was there a popularity classification and how is it won?

"They come under the 1 kilometre to go banner.... the Kenda 1 kilometre to go banner" Slightly annoying over eagerness to get in every sponsor name going.

And they called it the "Maillot Jaune" yesterday when i thought it was a gold jersey?

It's a bit pedantic. Overall they're pretty good, but maybe getting on a bit like John Motson in football (get's it all wrong, all the time).

No i don't mind them ,the fact they use the odd cliche here and there is amusing more than irritating and really nothing to get so worked up about.

Have they done the "1 kilometre, that's 1000metres to go" for the metrically illiterate yet?

I came across the TOC last night as well, ITV could do with advertising that they are showing some cycling, especially after the "got classics TV rights but not showing them" issue recently.

The thing that got me baffled was the "neutralised decent behind the motorcycle" comment....

Was this commentators cobblers or was this really the case. I know the recent sad events at the Giro are still fresh in everyones mind, but surely we can't be having neutralised racing everytime there is a tricky/dangerous decent.

What's Sherwin's obsession with putting the word "Team" in front of everything ??

Are there teams in cycling - Phew will sleep a lot better tonight knowing that :D

While I'm used to them, because of a lack of options here in the states, they still make me cringe. Versus needs to start grooming a new team to cover cycling, and I DON'T mean Bob "Tour Day France" Roll. The only other channel that shows cycling is Universal sports and they don't have an HD channel in my market.

I agree. Phil and Paul always give me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside when I first hear their voices as it transports me back to when I was younger and getting into cycling but I do think it might be time to bring some younger blood in. After an hour of talking about Lance and repeating their same stock phrases it does start to grate.

Oh and yes it really bugs me as well when I hear Bob Roll says Tour DayFrance...

Americans use imperial measurement still don't they? Seems like an obvious 'dumb it down for the audience' approach IMHO.

In Chasing Legends during the build up to the sprint, Paul can be heard describing Cav's team as HCT Columbia ;)

This is the face of "insert rider name here", who is thinking about the possibilty of "insert some sort of cycling achievement here".
