I'm fed up with isotonic drinks, caffeine gels and the like giving me a washing machine belly so I'm opting for:
Jacobs Fig rolls
A banana or two
Honey sandwich
High 5 Zero tablets
And making good use of the feed stations.
Looking at a grand total of about £3.

Flapjack & bananas backed up by SIS powder drinks & zipvit caffeine gels did pretty well for me on the Etape C, no stops although trying to get crumbling flapjack out of its excessively large poly bag in my jersey pocket nearly caused a few crashes.0

You must have big pockets!
4 gels and 2 energy bars + 2 bottles of Zipvit and powder for another two gets me round a 100 mile sportive . That means I can take or leave feedstops if I want to.0 -

Co-op flapjacks....These fit into a jersey well, and come wrapped in small(ish) plastic which you need to keep and not chuck, but they work really well. Big bowl of porridge morning before you start (no sugar, makes you tired later) and lots of water with Nuun or Zero in it...plus as many bananas as you need (2 to start, pick up 2 at feed station and refill water...I do carry a Ride bar in case of bonk at the end.0

Up until recently I used (but hated) gels.... they tasted sickly and I always ended up with residue on my hands after trying to open them, use them and return them to my pocket. However I have since discovered the Squeezy energy gels in bottles
These taste better than the fruity gels (at least the cola one does... not tried the other flavour). They work out cheaper (large refil bottles are sold). And.... best of all... you can sip the gel and replace the bottle in your pocket between sips... so mess free!
I'm doing the Wiggle sportive on Sunday... and will have 2 or 3 of those Squeezy bottles in my pockets...0 -
Although haven't any specific event in mind, the subject brings to mind what Alan Pieper(my apologies if that isn't the correct spelling) used to fuel himself with in the big tours... Bacon Sarnies! If it was good enough for him I decided it was good enough for me!0

On Etape C I took two 750ml bottles with Maxim original (for fuel) and one high 5 zero eloctrolyte tablet in each. I then ate 2 Cliff bars (chocolate flavour..Yum!) during the ride and ran out of energy seconds before crossing the finish line. I had a spare Cliff bar in my pocket just in case, but didn't need it. I didn't have to top-up my drink, but would've done if it had been a hotter day.
Before the ride I drank a 500ml bottle of Maxim/electrolyte and had another 750ml bottle to drink in the car for when I crossed the line.
It seemed to work out just right and I didn't have to stop for a pee for a change!

I am getting some Torq Lemon and Lime...all natural ing, low sugar and easy tatse...a bit like Nuun or Zero but with some carbs...
Sorry for the early typo..put it in "subject"....Co-op do flapjack of the right size and consistency for longish rides, if your body is used to running off oats...0
