BTW, I'm watching on Unviersal Sports and the announcers are OK. Not bad, not great. How are the announcers on each of your respective TV/Web stations?

Or maybe as I predicted...they gift it to a nobody. Would be nice to see at least one of the big names have a go...

No sign of any of the big names whatsoever. Too early in the race to show your cards, unfortunately.

    Man that was close!

Good ride from De Clerq, it's nice to see a few lesser known names getting some glory in this first week. Weak stage though, why did they make it so short??

    Brilliant ride for a neo-pro

Small sign of weakness there from Bertie in that sprint - couldn't hold Kreuziger's wheel at all

    I think they thought:
    1. It's the first week, don't want to kill them too early
    2. If they kept it shorter, more guys might attack

Kreuziger's going to maybe have a better giro than most people thought. He looked better than i thought he would but early days

Wow, impressive ride by the winner. So, so close. Was willing him on - looked like he was totally cooked as couldn't get out of the saddle.

Some fast finishers. Not a problem regarding Contador - he doesn't have a good sprint on him and neither does he need one.

Just caught up. What a meh stage.
Probably confirms many folk's suspicion that this Giro is just too tough.
Bart who? OPL's leftovers actually looked good, with the peloton staunchly refusing to step on the gas.
Contador beaten by the Venezuelan leprechaun. LOL.

    Deignan and Porte in autobus....

    Hoogerland only finished 3.39 down.

    Eros 1.43

Di Luca 1.34 .... I wonder whether he is going full gas in this Giro. If so the drugs made a huge difference.

Szmyd only 33 secs down Navarro only 28 secs. Going to kill them when it counts.

All the big guns and some were there.

Sella isn't getting whacked, to note.

Etna stage is hard and Scarponi, Nibali and Contador are all game for that one.

The stage was very short and so the pace was very high at the end - not the time to attack so no surprises there.

Surely true champions attack at every opportunity?

What makes you think Sella is now drug free, btw?

All in the big rings too (apart from winner), so defo not too hard:

Whos knows about Sella. I simply don't have many opinions on riders until there is strong proper evidence against and will therefore take the opinion they are clean.

I would think most riders coming back are clean as they understand what it is like to not be involved in the sport and that is too hard to bear. I was wrong about Ricco tho so...

Really quite impressive of him to stay away. Solo for over 5km and with the pack coming very fast.

Pack did last km at 35km/h

    Interesting finish tomorrow:

It is interesting. But it's only 600m, so it's a power climb. It wouldn't be seen as much at the Ronde. I think even McEwen will be fine. The likes of Di Luca may chance their arm (and fail). It may put the breaks on a breakaway if it's getting close though.
