Been recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and am struggling with keeping blood sugar levels within acceptable ranges and training. Overloading with carbs and glucose drinks is a big no no!! Does anyone know of any specialist websites of training advise steered towards Diabetics?

I am type 2, have been for many years now, and it doesn't, and hasn't ever effected me, either with my cycling or running.
You will get better at control in time, just be sensible with what you eat, keep a diary of what you eat and how it affects your levels, most normal people "over carb", so it can be a little tough to get used to eating normal levels to keep your BS under control .
Are you taking medication?, i was on 800mg Metformin for a few years (untill I lost a shed load of weight), speak with your GP about it, and also your diatetic care nurse, they will be able to help out with alot of your issues.
It can be a bit daunting when you are newly diagnosed, but it really shouldn't have much, if any, negative affect on your life.0 -
Thanks mate. Appreciate the help.

Hello,
Firstly a declaration of interest - I'm a Consultant Diabetologist.
It rather depends on what treatment you are on, what control you have currently and what you mean by cycling (distance/ duration/effort).
Are you been managed by your GP, or a diabetes specialist?? I would recommend a specialist if you are serious about incorporating significant amounts of exercise into your life.
Feel free to PM me if you want to know anything specific.
A good website http://www.runsweet.com which covers all aspects of diabetes and sport.
Best of luck and keep exercising.0 -
I have written in another thread reagrding my T1 diabetes - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... highlight=
I like tofollow any forum thread or reseach websites looking for how people compete/train/hobby with diabetes.
Touch wood, I have maintained good control since rekindling my cycling as a hobby.
