Polar FT4

I'm looking for replacement for a knackered HRM.

Does anyone with a Polar FT4 know for sure whether you can set the target zone manually as well as automatically. The website seems to imply you can, but the online handbook makes no mention of how.

Ta.

    Cheers BM

Just out of curiosity, how does it choose the limits automatically?

With my old M52 you used to choose high or low intensity and then it would calculate limits based on a measurement of your fitness during warm up, but I can't find any explanation of what the FT4 is supposed to be doing.

I never found the auto method much good, which is why I'm keen to make sure I've got a manual option as well.

as far as i'm aware (and flicking through the option on the watch here as i type), it seems that when you first input your age and weight, it automatically calculates your max HR from 220-age. when you confirm that, it asks you to confirm zone limits - which it sets as 65 - 85% of your MHR.

that seems to be it as far as anything automatic goes. its up to the individual to work out what their intended intensity is to be and set the limits accordingly themselves.

    hope that helps :-)
