  • Not sure if its the lowest profile helmet on the market but certainly not far off being one of the lightest, and i personally think one of the more stylish is the s works prevail, just purchased one and you dont even know your wearing it. A little pricey but looks the cats conkers.good shopping.

I've just got a Giro Prolight, very light, very comfortable, and I picked it up for 99 quid.

I just got a Giro Ionos. It is incredibly comfortable with the best adjustment system I have seen.

The airflow is exceptional and you get a mesh/padding liner for use on cooler days. You also get a spare set of pads.

    Recommended.

The Giro Atmos has a smaller profile than anything else I've had. I suspect the Prolight is also good (havn't had one though).

I have also just bought the Giro Ionos, superb for airflow and as comfortably as my previous Rudy Project.

The Pro-light I found uncomfortable, but Giro are bringing out a new super light next month, so it might be worth waiting.

Limar Ultralight - Giros are pudding bowls in comparison. Genuinely one of the few helmets where you don't feel it's there.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I really like the look of the Limars - any idea who stocks them in the UK though?

    Thanks

Thats the problem. Couldn't find a shop which stocked them so I could try one on. Found a good deal from rutland cycles a few months back, 80quid I think. Unfortunately I found the lima ultralight very uncomfortable, really dug into my forehead and I remember someone else describing it well saying its like its not been dished out properly inside and is just perched on your head. Low profile it is though.

Jim Walker / i-bike were UK distributors but don't appear to be selling them.

EDIT - CRC will be selling them.

Twice the price of the Limar

Having had a bump near christmas leaving me with concussion, the state of my Giro helmet, that appeared fine, has been playing on my mind.
Coupled with yesterday's events and another accident in a race a couple of weeks ago I decided to buy a Limar Ultralight on MD's recommendation.
Got it from Rutland Cycling for 60 quid...

Post some pics fitted if possible when you get it.

Next you will be telling me they really do make sellotape that is sticky on both sides.

    What buffoonary.

As for lids, I have the Ionos. The Giro ultralight is lighter - but I'd rather have the extra grams as the strap looks a bit dodgy to me... Low profile - no idea, but wouldn't fancy my car's tyres on my bonce.

I'd always go for what suits me anyway. The Limahl looks a bit Gary Gopshop - camp and furry looking:

Its all about the fit. I tried a Limar a couple of years back, just felt all wrong - perched on top of my head, no matter how tight the straps were you could pull it back with no effort at all. I had no doubt that it would have been absolutely useless in a crash. Ended up with a Bell Sweep which fits a lot better. I guess a lot depends on the shape of your head.

Tempted to order a Las Victory sight unseen based on the mag test this month. I tried a Prolight and it felt less than comfy and was the most mushroomy helmet fit in the world ever. The Ionos was comfortable but very heavy for the price and the Catlike Whisper a great fit, not mushroomy and light but not convinced about the styling.

    Ar5e.

Rutland Cycling have just emailed to say they don't have any Limar helmets. I freaking HATE it when companies advertise stock they don't have. Plus their 'customer service ticket' system to try and sort a refund is ar5e. It wasn't working properly so I tried ringing. After 10 minutes of being on hold it finally let me leave a message. I tried again and finally got through.

    Won't use them again.

That's what happens when you leave a sex craved looney in charge of stock. She's probably tied to the bedposts as we speak.

Exactly the same happened to me with rutland. Ordered and paid for 3 items, then got an email saying they were all out of stock. And their ticker thing wasn't working.

I have a lima size large if your interested. Never been used. Just gathering dust, would only want postage for it. Pm if interested.

After years and years of having Giro helmets I bought a Kask. I bought a C50 project from the classifieds here.

The quality is far far better than any Giro helmet and it is so comfortable. Nice leathery straps, great padding and the drop down cage at the back with dial adjustment is amazing.

Honestly it's worth the description. It drops to mid way at the base of skull and then tighten with dial. Very secure.
