Anyone know a good priced HRM?
Id love a Polar CS300 (as my computer has packed up too) but i cant justify £100 on one.
I guess all HRMs have the chest strap, so whats the cheapest reliable one which can be recommended for a cyclist?

this looks a nice tool, any experience? Replaces both my computer and gives me HRM, no cadence but I can live without that0 -
I've just bought one of the Sigma Onyx HRMs from ribble http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/Sigma-HEART-RATE-MONITORS-Sigma-Onyx-Fit-Heart-Rate-Monitor/SIGMHRMA375000000000 to replace a Garmin Forerunner 50. I can't speak for the exact model you're talking about but my thoughts on the Onyx are:
So far it's been pretty good. I get a couple of very high readings at the start of the ride (probably due to the sensor not being sweaty enough) but the rest of the time it seems very accurate. It automatically sets zones for you, but you can override if you want. There's a very handy bar at the top of the display that shows where you are on your max HR level, and it has a very loud audible tone when you enter/leave a zone (I switched it off). You can't connect it to a PC but it does store 7 rides in the memory and keeps a weekly and monthly record of your rides. It also has user-replaceable batteries, which is great for me, and a series of training programs that are relatively useful. I'm very happy with it.0 -
Halfords do a good one. Can go a bit high now and again but reliable enough and only £20 for mount, strap and watch.0

well I bought the Merlin one, should be here tomorrow I'll see how it performs.0

Too late for you, but I got mine on offer from Lloyds Pharmacy for a tenner. Lick the contacts on the chest strap when putting it on, and it's been 100% reliable. Gives present, max, min and average HR.
My problems with it are:
a) it's wrist mounted so when wearing LS jersey / gloves it's hard to see, and
b) the HR is one of the smaller numbers displayed so I struggle to read it at all without my reading specs. You cannot change what's displayed in large digits (the time I think  )
What I really need is a lovely stem mounted Garmin of some description!0 -

that looks like a slightly improved version; mine has no beep for HR zone. Maybe that's why they were a tenner!0

I was tempted to get the cheapest Polar HRM from Amazon but I may try the Lloyds one - easier (and cheaper) to return it if it turns out to be unsatisfactory.
Edit - just noticed it doesn't say it has a coded signal, so it could be prone to interference.CAPTAIN BUCKFAST'S CYCLING TIPS - GUARANTEED TO WORK! 1 OUT OF 10 RACING CYCLISTS AGREE!0 -
well mine coexists quite happily with a halford wireless computer and a powerful LED front light0
