  • Does anyone know if there are designated rider start times for the Tour Ride East Anglia, or is it a case of turning up between 7 and 9:30 and setting off?
depends if you are in the old hat Discovery kit or the highly fashionable Sky kit (including socks) , the former you are at the back of the queue.
If you have Zipp 808s you even get your own team car,.

turn up and ride, bud, thats all you need to do by all accounts

I've won a limited edition Sky TdF jersey but I won't receive it till after the tour, so it looks like I'll have to set off with the non Discovery kit riders!

Sadly with my wheels there'll be no team car :(

I'll try and get down there before 7 and set off with the early birds.

Thanks for the tip secretsqizz :D

WIth regards registration and start groups, is it possible to start in the same group as friends even though we have registered separately and not as a group?

    Hi Eli,

That should be fine. Just turn up together, queue together and you should go out in the same pulse.

Have a great ride on Sunday

The Tour Ride for East Anglia is only one week away ( the 24th ) I have recieved my ride number and downloaded the ride manual but nowhere does it state where the designated car park for the ride is :?
I presume it will be close to the start in Nowton Park but some details would be nice , anyone got any ideas?

Good question....thanks. The car parks are going to be very well sign posted and are located very close to the start and finish locations.

    Hope that helps.

Hope the ride goes well and the sun shines!!

All my life I've wanted to be someone; I guess I should have been more specific.

    Cheers that's great.
Better allow a bit more time to get there as Wales are playing Argentina in Cardiff that day, will be busy on the motorway.
Looking at the route map I see the KOM markers, do we get timed for those climbs as well then?

    Hi Jack,

KOM is not timed, but full ride distance is.

    They were from Sportive Photo.

I've just checked but the photos aren't online yet.

  • Well my 2 friends & I completed our first Sportive on Sunday, the 200k Tour of East Anglia. We only took up road biking 3 months ago and I fairly chuffed to have got round the course at an average speed of 16.5mph. The ride was about 45 miles further than our longest training ride.
I thought the route was very well signposted (even tho I missed a turn in Diss, but got called back) and the stops were well stocked with food/drink. There were marshalls riding up & dopwn on motorbikes and mechanical help at the stops.
Only minor gripes were that it would've been nice if there could've been some kind of savoury snacks at the stops........theres only so much cake/gel etc you can take; also, we finished around 330pm, but had to wait 3+ hours for the coach back. I know you can't please everyone with transfer times, but I felt the coach times being at 3 o'clock & 7 o'clock, could either have done with being closer together, i.e. 4 o'clock (although I suspect this wouldn't please the faster riders) or a 3rd transfer at 5 o'clock, but this would obviously cost the organisers/charity more money.

The real acid test is whether i'd do it again and I can say a resounding yes, so well done to Alistair and the team on an enjoyable (if painful) experience.

You almost caught the first coach then as we didnt leave until 3.30pm , in the end it left with about 10 people on it!
I didnt see a single marshall motorbike in 204 kilometres so dont know where they got to but it was an enjoyable day out!

it was my first organised ride.i clocked up 130 miles.took me 10 hours but spent 2 hours waiting for my friend that had a puncture and who then needed a new tyre.had to rely on another friends wife to bring the tyre as we didn`t see much back up on the road.can you believe a tractor was cutting the hedgerows from ipswich to diss - typical , sharp bits all over the road !
i didn`t really prepare properly as i`ve never rode over 50 miles before although i ride 20-30miles daily to work.
i really enjoyed the day although i overdosed on gels ,bananas and energy bars - i was hoping for a good ole sarnie at the food stops.
i bonked at 90 miles , had no more left in my legs but after a refuel at reepham , the last 35 miles to sandringham were superb despite my sore legs.
overall it was a brilliant day out and a good learning experience - i can`t wait for the next one.
tip for the organisers - check the weather the night before and if there is going to be a nagging headwind for most of the ride then just reverse the route at short notice - simples.

    Thanks Orbeaorca, Brushiemma and Kerz,

Feedback is really important and we’ll certainly pass on your comments to the events organisation that put the rides on for The Prostate Cancer Charity.
I’m glad that the weather was good and that we are at last getting a bit of summer sunshine!

Do let me know of any other problems or thoughts on how we can improve things and also keep the good news stories coming; I know that a lot of massive personal achievements were clocked up on Sunday, so well done to all on your new PB distances!!

    Cheerio for now

I completed the Diss to Sandriingham route. Thought it was a very well run event. Signposting very good. Spotted the motorbike marshall several times.
Crossing over the finish line with the finish gantry and commentator made the event feel very special.
Will take part again next year if it comes to East Anglia.
Only that I think needs changing was the b****y wind, So if you could run it agian but without the wind that would be great!!!!1

    Hi All,

Here’s a rallying cry for Welsh cyclists! – Dame Shirley Bassey says ‘On your bike!’ for charity cycle, 1 August 2011

Welsh singer Dame Shirley Bassey has thrown her support behind The Prostate Cancer Charity’s Tour Ride in Wales this month. Bassey said: “I think it’s a wonderful idea that my beloved South Wales valleys should be the backdrop for this amazing Tour Ride http://www.tourride.co.uk and would urge all fit cyclists to sign up, although I don’t envy you on the challenging hill climbs! The Prostate Cancer Charity is a great cause; I’m delighted to be supporting it.”

Just a bit of info for you all.

You can still sign up online until midnight Sunday 14th for the Tour Ride in Wales and after that you can sign up on the day, but it really is much quicker online!

Best of luck to all those signed up and fingers crossed for good weather – not long now!

NO jersey number, therefore already being better than every other sportive, jersey numbers are annoying,.
