I didnt think the racing was that good at the TOC last year - but the scenery in HD was worth watching. What was the stage up to the Lake ? Stunning.

I'm not too excited about the TOC.

I disagree that it doesn't affect the Giro. The GC field for the Giro looks weaker than it has for a few years, and I'm sure the TOC is partl;y rtesponsible for that. In some cases, it'll be because they want to ride a one week race as training rather than three weeks, but that in itself is hardly great for the TOC. No-one really goes to the Giro as training (apart from Sky's ill-fated attempt last year).

Also, I do beleive the coverage clashes for most people who will be at work in the day and have to try to cram in recorded Giro, or highlights, as well as live TOC coverage in the same evening. It'll be tricky to follow both races without taking time off work or upsetting the rest of the household.

i think that's because the Giros of late have been so hard, not because of the ToC.

No-one apart from Leipheimer goes into the ToC in GT winning form. They do for the Giro.

You might be right. It does seem that the tougher the route, the weaker the field, as the top GC riders realise that it'll ruin them for the TDF.

One thing I can't stand about the TOC is the irritating "look at me" american fans in fancy dress, getting in the way and generally making a spectacle of themselves.

A reason I finally gave up going to the TDF. (I did return for the D'Huez Time Trial)
That and the "Pink" dressed idiots that are more interested in themselves and not in the race they are supposed to be watching.

Mam, did you see me on TV.
    Yeh, what a Pillock.

I thought the scenary in the TOC was outstanding last year on the stage to Big Bear Lake.

yeh, A back stabbing Thug hit him from behind.
The thug managed to get from the middle of the peloton to do it.

The action in the picture proves the truth hurts and cannot be ignored.

I am trying to figure out what LA pushing a fanny dressed up with syringes proves ? oh and LA was the edge of the peleton before he reached the guy as the earlier picture shows.

150 riders or so and only one didn't like the demonstator.

Proves who has the biggest GUILT in that Peloton.

The Fanny wins that round easily.
    No knockout blow there yet

I'm prepared to bet that there are other riders who are equally guilty in that peloton.

Of those 150 riders, which one do you think Mr Fanny made a point of screaming in the ear of and run up alongside?

Given the news about Novtizky/Armstrong today, can we assume that LA is defo NOT racing in Cali?

I've not look at the start list but if he was I assume there would be a headline in CN about it.

Reason I ask is that Harmon/Maggy were talking during a boring pause in the Crit Int'l that LA was indeed 'coming back' for Cali.

(Crit Intl was a beautiful race to watch btw, la Corse is lovely, wasn't boring, it was after the stage and they were waiting for the podium stuff)

I used Careful wording because of that point and wouldn't bet against you.
The peloton didn't seem to have the same GUILTY Conscience and if that GUILT had not been so deep with him, then the incident would have passed without too much notice.

Defend the bum all you like but the Texan certainly put the notoriety to that scene.

For god's sake you two. This a thread about the Tour of California, but you want to squabble over a retired cyclist.

    No-one wins. You're both losers.

You may as well have a rumble about Coppi and Bartoli on the Giro thread

Just can't help taking (whatever) out of thicko's and the old fart was in the photo that started this, I think
I leave the rumble about Fausto and Gino to the Gazzetta where most of it started.

However Tour of California from now on.
