Thank God I only have to drive it once more.

One of the worst cars I have ever had the displeasure of driving.

But I now know why most BMW drivers have their seat back almost horizontal.

what was it?

320D Coupe.

Well I wouldn't want to own one but what was so bad, apart from the Surf-Matt connection? They don't seem to do too badly as a 'drivers car' in the car mag reviews.

Isn't the 335D a fully auto set up?

    Yeah, why the seat thing?

And the 335D is an automatic because there was too much torque for a manual gearbox.

go round a corner and I am so used to seat that hold you in place rather than let you slide out of them.

I like to move my arm when shifting. Damn Floor console arm rest is to high. the angle of the head rest put my chin in my chest.

so that is the seating position.

the front end is just vague. just did not feel like it went where i wanted it to.

Ok it was only a 30 min drive back to work but. first impressions........

What you mean is BMW hasn't been arsed to develop a gear box for it, as they have more torquey cars that have sequential and full gear boxes. It's a go kart not a drivers car :P

    Claptrap.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

    Claptrap.

    It's not my claptrap

I would find the original post where that claim was made, but I think if I searched for posts by surf_matt with the word 'torque' in them I'd be here for a while

I've got a BMW 1-series, 2.0 diesel and reckon its one of the best 'day-to-day' drivers cars i've ever driven.
Its fast enough for the daily commute, pretty comfortable and returns 50+ MPG per tank of diesel.
I do 20k+ miles per year so it does get a bit of use!

I won't be getting another as got two kids now and its too small as a family car... looks like it'll be a sensible Passat estate next time... :(

Was it a newish coupe? I think they went to electric steering pumps over the last few years, which would mess any feel up at all.

A quick look at the BMW website shows they have a hydraulic pump. Can't be that then.

Agree on the seats - I have a 4 door 320d and you have to hang on around the corners.

Ooh, I'd urge you to reconsider.
I borrow my father's Passat when my car is being serviced, and it's a thoroughly loathsome thing. Handles like a battleship floating on blancmange, and everything seems to be placed in the most annoying, or uncomfortable place.

The 335D is very cheap to run: is fueled by total ignorance.

See i found it totally impractical even as a single guy, loading space is awful. I couldn't get camping gear for two inside with 2 bikes, which i can in alot of the competition.

Basiclly thought it was a bit pointless lol no practicallity and if your after pure fun there are far more fun cars to drive for the price if you look at a few 2 seaters :p

One of my mates has a 120 diesel. Looks great, but the torque is just one big glob, then gone.

what you guys want is a Ford Focus 1.6 Elle edition,

    http://www.carpages.co.uk/ford/ford_foc ... _10_02.asp
it’s the perfect new season style statement for the discerning girl about town!"
    :?

i managed to fit me and two others in the car allong with two FSR stumper Jumpers and an Orange Patriot, all buy keeping one of the split seats up!

handles better than a Saab or a Passat and as its a Zetec SE it is good on fuel but has enough poke round town*

*this is a load of balls and i know it but its cheap to run!

Depends on which seats you have. If you've got the decent seat then on the front of the seat there's a little toggle switch that inflates/deflates the bolsters on the side of your seat. Have a play.

All the newer ones have electric steering, which does rob a bit of feel. You get used to it after a while.

    I love my 320d coupe.

well the drive back was a bit better. found some more adjustment in the seat. still poor though.

arm rest still to high. felt very twitchy but did not change direction or speed that quickly.

gave it the once over at lunch. Nothing special in how it is made and some of the materials could have been better chosen.

That's the most obvious difference between my old car (1.1l 106) and my new one (1.8l focus). 70mph was about 4100RPM in the peugeot, but it's now about 2200RPM. It actually makes me want to drive slower because it's not such a horrible place to be!
