My dad always told me that as I have dark skin I should wear brighter coloured clothes and not wear black be it for cycling or normal clothes.

I often wear black shorts with a black top. However........

The top has a stripe has a contrasting colourway including all the colours of the rainbow.
I have pink skin, a silver helmet, silver shoes and my bike is lime green and white.
I think that's quite enough without dressing up as a lollypop lady.

I might be a bit safer if I was dressed head to foot in high-viz but so would pedestrians, car drivers and everyone who ventures outside their front door.
