Wasn't the fastest speed gate around 78Kph or something? which is fast, but not crazy fast.
yep, crazy fast on a downhill course though. most people would $hit themselves going that fast on some welded tubes with wheels
Well, I ain't most people, but I've gone faster than that off road. It's only 48ish mph.

Todays DH tracks are not like the 90s where they ran 50t chainrings for long straights and often topped 60mph.
  • I did a million mph at the weekend*

    * only an estimate.

Well according to gps, i clocked over 50 coming down the mountain on Friday, for example.

I probably averaged 2mph on some of the black runs in Morzine/Les Gets but made it up on the roads getting home to empty my keks.
  • the GPS on my phone said I climbed to the top of Whinlatter in a straight line directly from the carpark.... which obviously I did!

Haha, i know, I wanted Gwin on my selection too, but opted not too cause of costs.
Incidentally, it's not a shortage of cameras, per se, that is the problem, it's because the riders start so soon after each other. There just physically isn't time to show everyone's full runs. So what they did in this case was film the top bit with the jumps, and film the bottom bit. Then they played back the top section off VTR whilst the riders were on the boring pedally bit, before cutting back to the bottom section, live. It worked quite well, I thought.
Unfortunately though, they just can't cover every foot of track, but I'm sure they'll have footage somewhere of what happened to Mick.

Makes sense, but it wasn't really made clear. You saw the jumps then straight to 2nd split which was already 2'30ish into the run.

Is it just me or does Sam Hill look way off match fit. I reckon this could be a repeat of last season but with Gwin vying with Gee and Minaar.

it's not a sam hill track thats for sure. 8th is still a very good result! once we get to the more technical tracks sam hill will be right up there

not a Sam Hill track, sure, but he looked completely and utterly fugged. The world's best need to be fit, and frankly he didn't look like he had what it takes. I can't see him being much of a threat to Minaar, Gee and Gwin this season.

Fine, shall I buy a fricking wheel based odometer then to shut all you pussies up?

he only recently fully recovered. i can see him being a threat to gee and greg, i guess we'll have to see what goes on in fort william. i can't actually wait, such a good event :)

For natural ability I don't think anyone matches Hill, he is a fecking demon at finding lines and flowing down a mountain...but he takes risks and even if he over comes that he has to be fit. It was the pic of him watching the 4x, showing off his new tat. No muscle definition. I think he will be off the pace all season. Yes, 8th on a track not suited to him was a good result but he has the ability to beat Gee and Minaar by seconds on evry track, all being well.

I really do hope he proves me wrong (even if it screws my fantasy score)

I think Minaar will win the cup this season, the man is very consistent and always near the top. Also supremely fit. Hill has the raw talent, but not the consinstency - can see him taking a win, then maybe a couple of DNFs of very low.

I'd love Gee to get back to back wins but it could well be Minaar this season.

The thing with them is they make it look so easy and un-dramatic. Their riding is so good and you can tell they are doing their homework on each track.

Gwin is the only one that I can see denting their 1-2 and I reckon Peitrmaritzburg was fairly non-technical as WC tracks go.

SS, Why did you pick Mick if you reckon Greg will do it (or was that just for this race)

That fantasy league is pants. I just logged in and Rach Atherton is still in my team and I swapped her out for Emilline Ragot on Friday. Plus, none of the points are up yet. We could have done better ourselves.

friday was too late, thursday at 23:59 was the deadline to make changes

yeah it is a bit rubbish that the points arent up yet :L but once they have done it for the first round i'm sure it will be quicker for the coming rounds

I picked Mick and Greg as part of my fantasy team: Mick's DNF will dent my tally!

same... I Swapped out Stevie Smith for Mick after his killer qualie run, and am gonna regret it big time! I dont think I will have scored very well this week, though Greg is a boon.

looking forward to this season even more now... gonna be close, but I think/hope Greg Minnaar does it, he's super consistent, super strong, and good on all types of track.
    I like bikes and stuff

How did someone manage zero points?
Also, how the hell does a guy with the team name DH GWINning not put Aaron Gwin on his top spot?

he slipped out of a corner, hit a tree and sheared his stem bolts. he only has a bruised thig so will defenintly be back for fort bill

brendon hit his knee on a rock, x rays show no broken bones and he will now have an mri scan to know exactly whats wrong
