The DDA is being ammended to stop discrimination against breeds, of the 20 or so organisations involved in the consulations regarding the DDA all of them came back saying that there was no basis for breed discrimination. The aim is for it to target the owners more and individual animals where complaints have been made about the behaviour.
this is entirely my opinion.
to ban dogs full stop is fair enough, to ban 3 particular breeds seems unreasonable in my opinion.
a bad dog is a product of a bad owner, full stop. ive seen plenty of snappy, pseudo aggressive dogs from typically friendly breeds (labs, spaniels collies etc etc) i think the comment earlier about the actual ban being more abou tthe typical owner than the dog might be true.
that being said, it might be that the camp site owners have a particular experience with those breeds and if that is the case, it makes perfect sense. i have no issue with that.
the way the info is presented suggests that they plain and simple dont like those breeds for no good reason and i look forward to being proven wrong.
i might well be slightly blinkered about rotties as i own one but i think the more honest admission is that i know more about them than many folk who have had nowt to do with them as i know the mother, father and a couple of litter mates, all of whom have behaved in the exact same way as my dog: properly good affectionate handsome dogs.0 -
i think yeehaa is onto something....
its not about generalising the breed of dog...
its probably more about generalising the type of people who own a particular breed of dog......
All nasty dogs are not owned by chavs.....but chavs who own dogs tend to have nasty ones.......or something like that....
I want a dog.Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

We've got a lab/collie cross. Barks and growls if you knock the door, but then just wants a fuss. I've tried to train her to bite my daughter's boyfriend, but she's having none of it... Outside, she's a complete cowardly wuss - scared of her own shadow, other people and especially other dogs. Nothing's happened to her to make her like this, she's always been like it and we've had her from 8 weeks old.
My son has staffie. She's big, intimadating and growls a lot if you go to their house. However, again, she's a big softie, but people are naturally afraid of her because of the breed's reputation.
My daughter has this little furry terrier thing that needs drop-kicking off a cliff somewhere. Little snappy sh1t is awful. Smaller than my cat, half as stupid and twice the attitude. Now that's a dog I wouldn't want anywhere near me on a campsite.
I can sort of see the reasoning behind banning certain breeds, however I do think this is a bit of a shame as no two dogs of the same breed will have the same temperament. As others have said, its pretty much the owners that are the problem, not the dogs.0
