Data from Edge 705: G Connect | RWGPS | Strava

Just trying to find a decent on-line application that I can use for tracking my progress.

I am currently trialling/using:

- Garmin Connect
- Strava
- Ride with GPS

Same ride, but data uploaded to three different online apps...

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/78931289
Distance: 34.80 mi Elevation Gain: 1,584 ft
Elapsed Time: 02:00:41 Moving Time: 01:57:54 Resting Time: NA
Average Speed: 17.3 mph Max Speed: 41.1 mph
Average HR: 141 bpm Average Cadence: 78 rpm Power: NA

http://app.strava.com/rides/423068
Distance: 34.8 mi Elevation Gain: 2,012 ft
Elapsed Time: 02:00:39 Moving Time: 01:58:55 Resting Time: 00:01:44
Average Speed: 17.6 mph Max Speed: 41.4 mph
Average HR: 142 bpm Average Cadence: 90.32rpm Power:189 watts

http://ridewithgps.com/trips/216104
Distance: 0.0 mi Elevation Gain: 1995 ft
Elapsed Time: 02:00:39 Moving Time: 01:58:10 Resting Time: 00:01:41
Average Speed: 17.9 mph Max Speed: 39.3 mph
Average HR: 139 bpm Average Cadence: Power: 230

Garmin Connect and RWGPS apparently do evaluation correction, but obviously don't agree. Strava just uses the data from the sensor in the 705, but thinks part of Bristol is 100ft below sea level.

Some of the tools use total time to work out the average speed, some use moving time.

I like parts of each of the apps, probably my fav is Strava, but there appears to be flaws in each of the apps, and the lack of correction in Strava (and inaccurate data from the 705) makes me kind of rule this out.

I would love to think that I can average 230 watts over 2 hrs, but me thinks this data is far from the truth and the app would be better off not lying to me.

Is there an application out there that doesn't cost the earth but would provide me with some useful data? If there's not, then I will obviously pick one of the apps above and change some of the data units to apples, oranges etc (i.e. take them with a pinch of salt)

Thanks in advance,
Simon

personally i use garmin connect. easy interface and lets you export routes in gpx if u want to reride routes. can also make training courses as well.

If you're using power every ride though without a doubt the best software is training peaks. no maps or anything like that but a stunning amount of data such as pedal torque, TSS score (really useful), graphs charting performance/ fitness. really recommended.

    Thanks for the reply..

Sorry should have stated... the 'power' figures are 'calculated' within the app.... I don't have any fancy Powertap or the like...

I do like Connect, but have been playing with Strava and really like the way you can define sections of a ride - and easily compare your speed/timing on them later. Just means that you have the ability to race against yourself (or even friends) - so make some of those solo rides more interesting (and keep motivated to push yourself)

I saw Training Peaks - which looked fantastic (if a little complex)... but it appeared to need one of those v expensive ( >£1000) Powertaps (worth almost as much as my bike :) )

    Sporttracks.

IF you have a Garmin, you should be using it. The plugins are amazing.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread. But to offer more solutions.
Sporttracks isn't mac friendly, is there anything like that for mac users?
