I love the Stumpy HT's - had I not been 'restricted' by the C2W scheme I'd have dug a bit deeper for one 8)2011 Cannondale Trail SL 29er HERE0

Had quite abit of change with this for the 2012 race season as I still think a good 26'er can be just as fast as those big tractor 29'ers so here's some new pics of it ready for it's first race in less than 2months time now so it's getting out alot for training I'll post some details up in a few days time of whats changed and how it's changed the ride characteristics
When in doubt go flat out! My steeds below:

Very Very nice bike but................ What have you done to those cranks? Looks like you've been featured on TV and not allowed to advertise certain products. Think you'd have better off bringing the red in via a set of pedals rather than the colour strip giving it the "Nelly" look. LoL0
-
Aye not a fan of the red crank stickers but apart from that its one tidy looking bike....
Actually, whats going on with those headset spacers?!0 -
I know I know the crankskins arn't very pretty, I ordered transparent ones but they sent me solid ones yes I'd rather be able to see the cranks writing, I'll get my black marker pen & write XTR on them if thats pleases you they are more just to stop the cranks getting the faces polished off & grinded up like I did in one muddy ride with the cranks on my marin while we're still in the gloopy days. They'll be off once the dry summer months come, headset spacers; not even sure if I like them yet but I ran out of normal black ones needing them for other bikes and saw these red ones local so picked up a set to try out, think they're abit overboard I must admit :PWhen in doubt go flat out! Just put helicopter tape over the crank arms (and pretty much the rest of the bike if you don't want it to get scratched up).0

Stunning looking bike!
One question, that frame isn't to big for you?
Seat is really low.0 -
Bit too much red on there now IMO, looks a bit garish. One question, that frame isn't to big for you?
Seat is really low
I'll +1 that!
Are they Control SLs? Stock up on front hub bearings, mine used to last about 10 hours.0 -
I agree the camera brought out the red in it alot more than it does when seen in the flesh, it does look too much in the pics I agree but when seen in flesh it's abit more subtle.
The red crankskins were only on the for gritty grimey months & are coming off now for the race season.
The wheels are control sl's, as soon as I got them I checked the bearings on the hubs & noticed there was little to no grease on them to protect them from the elements so I greased them up good 'n proper before they were used so should last fine so long as I check on them regualy & keep them clean & well greased. Thats just a small payback for having a very light wheelset which I happily accept
I'm at a difficult height where a 'small' felt too small & a medium is almost right but not quite so this is as close to perfect as I could get without paying crazy money for a custom size frame.
Last thing I've done is put a new shorter 90mm ritchey wcs 260deg stem on & flipped it upside down to tweak the handling abit & it feels great now. When in doubt go flat out! My steeds below:

Not unless they've changed the design. They used to die in one wet ride. I have some handbuilt wheels that are half the price, 150g lighter and don't have ridiculous bearings. Glad you've got rid of the crank skins, I'd still put helicopter tape on the cranks, it isn't the grit that scuffs them particularly.
Racing it at Sherwood?0 -

Ohright I'll see how they are then when they get wet & muddy then! I got them at half the retail price new which is why I bought them, what hand built wheelset are you running?
If I didn't have these I would of ended up with ztr crest's on hope hubs with cx ray sapim spokes but they were quite abit more expensive to get built up at the time.
yeah booked in for sherwood this weekend & looking forward to it as my first race of this year so abit nervous too are you? When in doubt go flat out! My steeds below:

Yep, I'm going, not really done much racing either, so could be interesting...
CX-Rays are a waste of money, you dodged a bullet there! Better fatigue strength, but nowt else! Had a few sets of wheels with them, but it just means nipples break instead, which has the same end result! Revolutions are the same weight and far cheaper.
I've got A2Z hubs on Podiums with Revolutions - £250 and 1246g with yellow tape and valves.0 -
good luck hope you enjoy it, I plan to build up a wheelset during the summer for 'everyday riding' so I don't use my sl set so much other than races so I'll look into your wheel build as it sounds really good and well priced for the low weight but probably use brass nipples & crest rims for abit of extra strength for using them regualy. Looks like it would cost around 300-350 with the prices these days to build them. When in doubt go flat out! My steeds below:

Even with Crests and brass nips the weight would be similar to the SLs anyway! Probably sensible though, my SLs were absolutely ruined after 2 years use, much prefer the handbuilts.0
