Anyone know of clubs in or around the Pontypridd area? They don't have to be close, I will travel around!

I'm knew to all this and am looking for a club who are accepting of a real novice to group riding...
I cycle all the time on my own and am doing 2 events this year so far... the forest of dean spring classic and the tour of pembrokeshire, all in the run up to 6 days of cyclign and climbing in august to raise money for help4heroes

any good suggestions would be really helpful...

Sunday ride is a good place to start, usually 3 groups. Meet at Maindy Leisure Centre for 9:30. They're a good bunch of people and you're sure to find a group to suit your ability.

    All the best

    Ben

Few clubs in cardiff as suggested above but if you want to come up the valley then have a look at Acme wheelers. If you're into timetrialling then you could try us at Porth and district.

If Wales was flattened out, it'd be bigger than England!
Planet X Ti Sportive for Sportives & tours
Orange Alpine 160 for Afan,Alps & dodging trees
Singlespeed Planet X Kaffenback for dodging potholes
An On-One Inbred for hard-tail shenanigans...

    +1

I'm, a member of Ajax and think its great.

Sunday ride is an excellent place to start. Steady group will do 50-55 miles with a cafe stop, we regroup at tops of hills and like the marines 'leave no-one behind'

Middle and Fast groups will go longer, further but also stop at the cafe. They have a slightly different attitude and will not necessarily wait for mechanics etc etc but that is fine as people are informed of this upfront.

My recommendatino would be to go with the slow group for a few weeks, just to see how you get on, also with riding within a group etc etc.

If the pace is too slow or you think it's too easy, you can always work harder by sitting on the front for longer :)

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

    Dru

  • If you are in pontypridd then you have a good choice, the bvious is ACME wheelers, or Porth CC. Cardiff Ajax and JIF worth considering, though JIF is more race orientated. Cwmcarn is a lareg club not too far away, and of course the mighty pontypool massive !

I live in Pontypridd and joined Acme several years ago on the recommendation of ChrisW and have never regretted it :) at the moment there's a wide variety of cyclist in the club whose's interests vary from Time Trials , Road Races, Sportives and of course the stalwart cafe run group .

It's a pity i didn't notice this thread earlier because i managed to get a club run to start from pontypridd today  you could have tagged along and had some fun.
