What would you guys do

I'm just about to enter into my 24th season. Now it just a few time trails and the shorter distance sportives, but once the cycling is in your blood, you can't stop.

Well this is my dilemma, this year sees me with pain down the outside of my left leg and knee. I've bought a roller thingy and spend many seconds a night on the floor writhing in agony as it hits two spots of pain. I've also got extremely tight hamstrings (my fault I know and know how to rectify this)

Should I go and spend money on seeing a sports injury specilist and have some serious manipulation or should i pop down the road and give the LBS £120 for a BG Fit?

Even though I've been riding for the amount of time I have this year I just can't seem to get comfortable on my steed.

Any thoughts?

Personally I would go for a bike fit, as this will highlight any flexibility issues. And then get some stretching done on the hamstrings and hip flexors after a warm bath.

If you go to a physio, they may just give you some stretches!

Can you afford both? you want a bike you can ride and a body that will work even off the bike - both need to be adressed - and doing just one wont sort the other much

I'd be seeing a physio without fail.

I had a similar thing and saw a physio last night. She said it was hamstring related so I now have some strengthening exercises and stretches to try out.

how much would you spend on a wheelset?
this is much more important get the bike fit- if not sorted then see physio.
no good fancy kit and you cant ride. good luck.

  • Well today I had a BG fit and I was miles out on most things. Saddle too high, for and aft was a light year from what it should have been, my fizik saddle was far too narrow for my sit bones and the reach to my break hoods was why I was getting pins and needles in my fingers.

All in all four hours spent, no stone left unturned and I reckon it has sorted loads of stuff out.

All that and told to do lots of hamstring stretches as they were as tight as a nats chuff.

Thanks to all for your advice.
