Courier Bag or Panniers?

    For the OP, panniers all the way.

    I've got a Timbuk2 courier bag and it's great for what I use it for- I do a max of 7 miles each way, to work or into town is less, and then I've got something that's also great for wandering about town or whatever when I get there. It doesn't look particularly bikey when off the bike, which I like but YMMV. The waist strap holds everything in place fine, although sometimes you need to pack carefully, and you still get a nice sweaty back!

    EDIT: It's waterproof too but there's more chance of water getting in at the lid/flap than with a good roll-top pannier or rucsack. But in practice I've never had a problem.

    But if your sole concern is carrying the kit on the bike, then panniers are the way forward, (especially for any sort of distance) then a decent backpack, then a courier bag I reckon.
