he can quite easly take you to court if you post pictures of members of public in a public place.

people have been sued many times via youtube and people being seen on videos.

sadly no matter how much of a ars* he was you cant post his picture

    Eh?

There is no right or expectation of privacy in a public place, and anyone (even children - shock horror) can be photographed legitimately and their picture posted. In the UK. In the US (land of the free?) of course this is not the case.

sorry but thats wrong, anyone under the age of 16 if i belive, might be 18 though, cannot have picture taken by a non related person/s.

had to do a course on this sort of stuff as i had to deal with kids and had to read a stupid 50 page book on the laws :(

common sense though ofc you can, but if you take a picture of some random person then post it on a public forum/place without their permission then you breaking the law and can be sued.

all people who take videos of other people need to fill in a form before doing so, if they plan to post it publically....paris hilton tape, yep, she signed for it to be made public.... (well known case for such a situation)

Well I'm the other half in question......Must admit I did mouth off in a very unlady-like fashion once I found a place for him to pass. I'm glad we never saw him in the car park, never seen the other half look so crazed!! lol

And no the moron hasn't put me off riding :D

Glad to hear it's not put you off! And good shout on using this idiot's actions to spur you on. How ironic that the supposedly 'fast' rider acting the idiot firstly couldn't handle the drop, but has in fact inspired you to learn it yourself!!

    that's not a drop!
  • If the guy has to intimidate women just starting out in order to feel better about his own riding, then I'd suggest he has bigger problems than anyone who has to put up with his childish behavior.

Leave him to it. And enjoy the rest of your ride.

Interesting - that's not my understanding (as a teacher and ex-media officer for an archery club that included juniors).

May be wrong but as I understand it there is no restriction on photographing and/or publishing images (for non-profit journalistic/public interest/publicity purposes?) of anyone of any age - pretty sure there is no right to visual privacy under UK/EU law.

All changes if the photographer (or the organisation they are attached to) knows and holds information (even just a name) on the individual (especially if they are under 18 ) as then the Data Protection Act applies rather than any 'privacy' legislation and you then need permission to use their image - although even this is a grey area - as a school if parents do not actively opt their children out of appearing in published school photographs then we are apparently OK to use their images as we wish.

    Minefield.

Regardless, anyone who hassles other riders on a trail (especially if they are obviously inexperienced) is a total knobber.

  • There's some very murky laws in photography. Essentially, you 'can't' go round photographing random people or even their property, without their permission. But if you ever open up a tabloid newspaper, you'll see the reality of those laws, and that you can in fact, get away with photographing pretty much anything and using it in any context..

There are plenty of photography forums with Candid (subject not knowing about the pics being taken) threads on so plenty of people get away with it/ it's not really a problem.

Sorry, but that's not true. If an individual is in a public place and the image is not for commercial purposes, that individual can be photographed without their permission.

They, (or a police officer for that matter) have no legal right whatsoever to insist that the images are deleted or that their picture not be taken in the first place.

Correct. Even if you take photos on private property such as a club where it says strictly no photos, they can ask you to leave but can not take your memory card or ask you to delete images.

In a public place anyone can be snapped without permission. Some schools where your child may attend will say no photos, but this is again not right. State schools are public property and you are legally allowed. They might ask you out of courtesy not to flash the crap out of the school play.

EDIT: Not totally correct.... you can take photos of anyone in a public place even if it is for commercial purposes.

ha ha, does anyone else think it might have been Lawman?! what bike was the guy riding? He maybe carried it down the drop because he hasn't got past the "please don't scratch" stage with the mojo yet.

 Shame it'll take a while for you to actually ride your shocker without crashing it on a silly little berm :P. And FYI the mojo has been ridden everyday since it's been built, and yes I haver got past the don't scratch it yet stage, but that still doesn't stop me ragging the thing round te trails, I'm not like other not to be named forum members you know  it's a pathetic drop really, they seem to make it easier everytime I go over to the chase, but it still amazes me why they haven't put a chicken run in for people who are abit nervous/ don't want to scatch their bike, it makes the trail less of a challenge for confident riders, buts a whole other arguement  still glad it hasn't put the OPs other half off, the chase has some great trails and people should be able to enjoy them, whatever their ability and not have to be intimidated by selfish losers.

The weirwolf is trickier than it looks on video, but easier than it looks when you're at the top of it.

It's the combination of an awkward entrance angle, the fact that the drop itself is through narrow trees and the short run off that does it. You can't hit it fast enough to 'launch' off it because there's no run up into it, and a small berm and trees immediately ahead once you're down it. It was trickier before they put the rock in, but they didn't have a choice as people kept skidding down it and the soil was disappearing.

Thats got to have been filled in, Ive only been once, but Im sure it was much worse than that!

Having said that, I was fairly new to the sport when I went, and the monkey had only just opened

I also remember hearing a while back that a girl had been paralized by her boyfriend because he thought it would be funny to buzz her back wheel. That was only on a pavement, so that chances of serious injury at a trail centre Id think would be much higher.

Complete idiot, I hope he gets what he deserves.

And to whomever it was that asked if this is normal at trail centres...no it is not! The vast majority of people are great. If youre having a bike issue they'll quite often stop and ask if you need help, most will politely ask to get through if you're slowing them up. Unfortunately you get the odd muppet that obviously has something to prove.

The last time I saw something like this, the lad faceplanted right in front of everyone on a tabletop. oh how we laughed!

that sucks man, it'd kill me not being be able to ride, but having a nice new bike constantly craving attention must suck big time!! The mojos been dusty and a few specks of mud on it, the local trails are pretty dry ATM, and considering that Cannock was a total mud bath two months ago, I'm amazed at how dry it is these days, it's loose as hell in places, but nothing to serious the mojo can't handle  the new black section about half way round the monkey looks interesting to say the least, no chance I was gonna do that for the first time at night!! It's pretty tough in places by the looks of it, will have a better look when I can actually see what's there
  • That's not even a drop?! I'm confused. Surely it's harder to walk down that than ride it.[/quote]

I'm just waiting for Thewaylander to turn up and tell everyone that Cannock's rubbish

Yeah, the rock that's now there, turning it into a slope rather than a drop, was an addition after the trail was opened.

It's not much less steep (if at all) than it was on opening tbh. It was easy then, it's easy now, only difficulty is clearing your wide bars through the trees at the top.

It's my understanding that you can take pictures and publish them, so long as the subject / property is not the main focus of the image. If they are the main focus then their permission is required. How the laws differ between hobby photography, commercial photography, and publishing (and posting it on a forum could be classed as publishing), I'm not so sure...

I have to comment again. Anyone in a public place (even police) can be photographed for amateur hobby or commercial use. No permission required. If they ask you to stop or you ram your lens in their face then it could be considered harassment. But this never is dealt with. Think of paparazzi snapping a celeb. Never brought to task.

As a full time professional photographer I can confirm ANYONE in a public place can be photographed! BUT posting an image of them accusing them of something could be classed as libel. My professional body has covered many articles on this sort of thing, especially problems with police in places like London confiscating equipment unlawfully or telling you to delete images which NO ONE has a right to do if you are in a public place, even if you a photographing a private area. This is why the paparazzi get away with doing what they do.

That said, common sense prevails and I would never photograph minors in a public place etc as it's not worth confrontation.

I have to admit that I was expecting more - the name conjures up a more intimidating image.

i think i'm missing something, i ride harder stuff than that getting out of my street (not really  ) but what an arse getting off for that

and what an arse for pressurising your wife...idiot :x
