Yeah it's the feel of the XTRs I really like, they're just such a light lever - if they replicate that on a cheaper brake they'll be onto a winner.
Not tried the Trail brakes with all the adjustments, I guess there's a risk they really do just become a higher priced XT - at least the Race brakes save a chunk of weight.0 -
The XTR trail brakes are great IMO. If the new XT and SLX are as good then Avid have got a headache on their hands. Would like to see the rotors with six bolt option though.Trek Remedy 9.9 (custom) 2011

They are gonna do 6 bolt ICE tech rotors with the XTs...
Must say I've never had a problem using 'normal' rotors, they're still very good. Superstar now do pads for them too.0 -
Gorgeous! 8) I'll resurrect this so you do an update!!
Out of interest, what races are you entering this year? I'm just doing the ulsterxc and some irish rounds, trying to get out to ride a load of the trail centres that are popping up over here too Its times like this that make me wish I'd picked a university in Scotland/England! Got an offer for Strathclyde and loughborough .... though I'm pretty sure there isn't anything to ride near loughborough from what I could see. (was actually one of the deciding factors in not picking it!)0 -
No excuses now then, I'll have to get some new photos! Only a few changes - front rotor is back to Avid, it works better! Cables changed, new chain guide, I broke that one! Kashima forks, think that's about it!
Not doing all that many races, don't really have the time to ride much at the moment, and there's only so much fun in driving hundreds of miles to potter round at the back! I'll be doing the last 3 Southern XC series, probably the last 2 NPS races, plus Mountain Mayhem and likely some other enduros, as well as the XTERRA UK off-road tri in August.0 -
Well your road rides are certainly something, especially the 100 odd miles the other day! NPS as in the irish rounds, or is that another series in England?
Rotors - seen you recommend something like these or these on another thread - any good? I don't want to get lighter/better/pimpy rotors for them to not work as well! They don't seem to be missing too much material!0 -
Aye, that's an attempt to get fit again haha!
It's the British ones, formerly the National Points Series, I still think of them as the NPS, think they're called the British XC Series now.
It's the KCNCs I've used, and I did find them fine, but when I switched back to my 'normal' wheels I found the Avids did have more power, so I put an Avid rotor back on the front. Every chance a good clean would perk the KCNC rotor up again, and I still run one on the back, but prefer having more power on the front.0 -
Some going anyway! I am loving just getting out and about at the moment, its exam month, and I've found myself riding more than usual!
Yeah, I go faster whenever I know my brakes will stop me! May look for some new finishing kit instead then for now!0 -
Mt Zoom stuff is excellent, highly recommend it.
I rode more when I was at uni than any other time, so just look forward to that!0 -
Its just horrifically expensive! I'm getting a job just to afford a hobby!0

Get a job in a bike shop and get cheap stuff. Win/win.0
