Boat Race

Wow, that's a tired old cliche, just like all the other ones in this thread.
Both Blue Boats are usually the two top student crews in the country. Cambridge won the British Universities race last month, and both crews raced against the top two clubs in the UK and beat them in the run up to the race. Like it or not, these guys are pretty good.
Oxford to win, but it'll be close.FTT

It would be more exciting if the cox had a big drum and had to bash it to a tempo for the rowers. Sort of like on the slave galleyships of old. And whip the rowers too, that I would watch.0

Agecroft - don't know the club but the area isn't expensive. Not a working mans sport is it tho' (are there any?) and most of those that seem to make the big league are public school types or 'professional' rowers from eg the Army
Agree - the setup cost of starting and maintaining a rowing club is huge, so it's hardly surprising that those with money do well at it. Just to correct you on one point, there are very few "professional" rowers around. Definitely not the Army - they fit their training around their military duties and where they are stationed so get together as a crew less than most clubs in the country. The few professional rowers are those in or around the national squad and some of those have to supplement income with part time jobs.0 -

It would be better if women contested it and were whipped and prodded into action by the cox."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -

They don't spend all the time falling over like footballers.
They don't get a minion to carry their gear like golfists.
They don't stop for a sit down every ten minutes like in that game with rackets.
They don't use other mammals to do all the work like with sitting on a running horse.
(and they don't draft each other like those lazy roadies  )
Yeah, but they've all got small cox though.
I understand that the team with the smallest cox has an advantage over those with the bigger cox.
But it is true, is it not, that size is not everything...

Why don't you give us the benefit of your experience?"There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -

I know, coat.
You had to stick your oar in, didn't you?
Coat? I never took it off.0 -

Ergo, the boat race is here.
My PTP pick is Cambridge by 3 lengths.
Anyone interested/care?
I was brought up in the town with family who lecture there and I did a fair bit of coxing when I was younger, so it's quite fun for me.
I bet you did. The office rumour is true then! (see what I did there, Forum banter).
On a serious note, what do you base your verdict on?
Heavier boat, more experienced crew...
I used to know the cox who did it a few years back. The female one. Wasn't very keen. Her sister was a proper psyco too. Fancied some of the guys in my boat and tried to take my place!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -

Indeed...
One of the worst boat races I have seen in a while.
I can turn up and be rubbish.... Don't even need to train to do that.0
