Is anyone going to confess to having named their steed?

Do you have a Cannondale called Candy, or a Giant called Gigi or maybe a Specialized Allez called Allie?

Or is it naff to name? :?

I interchange between 'The Bike' and 'My Bike'

(This will probably be the least interesting response you'll get to your thread :-) )

My Allez is called "the mule" as I commute on it, my Slice is called "the pain" because thats the only emotion I've ever felt while riding it!!!
  • I did a charity ride from Berlin to Warsaw a few years ago in a group of around 100 people where we did 480 odd miles in 6 days. Was great apart from the bikes which were supposed to be new hybrids but we ended up with 2 ton mountain bikes that were at least 15 years old and atrociously maintained. My first bike had a sticker with Alan on it - after 5 miles the bike died and I had to get a cobbled together replacement which was the worst thing I have ridden - it became known as 'Alan B'stard'. Other than that I have never named a bike.
  • im currently calling mine shite ;)

I hasten to add the original 'Alan' sticker was not my own and I found it very weird - when the mechanics rebuilt the bike I still had the old frame with the sticker on it and it was such an awful ride that it got its new name.

My Geoffrey Butler tourer was Betsy but through numerous rebuilds her current incarnation is a bit of a Triggers Broom as only the rack and saddle are original

Who on earth would consider not naming their bike?!

My first mountainbike was called Flossie. She was eventually replaced by Bessie, then Doris and now Edwina.

I've had road-bikes called Bert, Lucinda and Gemima and now have a Surly Cross-check called Shania.

    Honestly :)

Bianca. Or 'Bianca Via Nirone 7' to give her the full name. Winds the missus up no end. "Off to give Bianca a good riding, my dear..." Etc.

My Cannondale is "The Cannondale" or "The Road Bike"

My old steelie is "the old steelie" or "the 531"

My Spesh Sirrus (which lives in London) is "the London bike"

My children do have names, however, they are not just "the boy" and "the girl"

It's just a hill. Get over it.
  • Thanks....it looks like I'm gonna have to start thinking of names...for a '94 Raleigh MTB and for my future purchase of a Spesh Secteur...

  • My Thorn Sterling is affectionately known as the Black Pig. She's matt black and no oil painting.

Does that make me Captain Pugwash?
Nobody told me we had a communication problem
  • I have a Kuota Kharma '10, I call Cheryl Cole & a Carrera Virtuoso '10 I call Mary Byrne. Mary B is my comfy warm overweight winter ride with full mudguards, Cheryl's a thin and light thing of beauty for summer days.

Only thing is the Kharma can sing whereas Ms Cole quite clearly can't.

  • I named my bike Beryl after a semi-precious stone because it was yellow and so is my bike :)
  • Mines called "Bastard" as that's the name it gets called the most when I am out riding it in pain and wishing I was at home with some coffee lay on my bed watching something on TV.

Yet I always end up back out on it again in the same situation soon after, go figure.

Oh dear, so sad. it's a bike. That said, we should start a facebook campeign to allow our bikes in the cabin of aircraft. it is wrong that part of us is confined to the cold and dark of the hold. Bikes have rights too. :D

My Izoard is called Sophia after Sophia Loren. She's Italian, well built and a bit of a looker. My friends have even started calling her Sophia
