What to eat

What should I be eating on a fairly flat 50 mile ride.I am currently taking 2X750ml bottles of water with Hi 5 zero tablets in em but the last 7/8 miles are really hard.I am trying to drop a few pounds.Your advice is appreciated.Thanks in advance

on a ride like that it would be useful to add some maltodextrin to at least one bottle for carbs. I run NUUN tablets with maltodextrin in mine works well.Cheers

Hi Brian,
My recommendation would be to have the first bottle with Zero and then switch over to 4:1. The problem with Zero is that although it is great for losing some pounds it will not give you any energy. I get on really well with the 4:1 because the protein helps with recovery but it also helps develop lean muscle which links in with your aim to lose weight. The calories in the drink are not that high to make you put on weight but it will make you feel better at the end and hopefully you can ride harder, therefore actually burning more calories too!

Just eat a muesli bar or a banana (or two) about an hour into your ride. Much cheaper than energy drinks and since you're not racing then there's no reason why you can't slow down a bit to munch some real food.More problems but still living....0

On 50mi i found 1 bottle of Carb drink and one of High 5 electrolyte tabs, potentially throw in a energy bar/flapjack/cake depending how you feel i.e. if its day 3/4 on a training week. I struggle with high 5 bottle + 1 carb bottle + bar when going over 60-70miles... that's when I take 2 x carb bottles + cake etc.'Ride hard for those who can't.....'0

50 mile 1 carb drink 1 water 1 nana.maybe a piece of granola cake/bar.
