Funny you should say that but a friend has suggested the caad 8 and spend the extra changing the wheels for some mavic aksiums, making it a much more competitive option!!! The best thing about the bianchi option is it looks beautiful but then thats italian designing for ya!
The cannondale supposedly has the best frame and the trek appears to be the lightest!!!

The Askiums are good but you can get lighter for your money. Planet-X Model Bs are about 125 or Pro-Lite Braccianos for 190 from Ribble (which is what I did).

A slightly different approach, I generally commute on an old rigid MTB turned single speed, it has slicks on it and I keep up with the proper road bikes most of the time. I have removable mudguards. No worries about an expensive bike getting nicked or damaged, and you can use your old MTB bits lying around the house to equipe it. Also if you just change the tyres you can do a bit of off-road on it.

After £1500 you are looking at decent entry level carbon frames

Make that £900 for decent entry level carbon framed bikes. Otherwise you dismiss Planet X and Ribble which really do deliver very good Carbon framed bikes from about that price level.
I don't ride carbon but those that do and seem to know more than I generally advise staying away from the entry level lower price frames as they are lower priced for a reason, at some point the quality has to be compromised?

However, I bow to anyone on the subject who knows more than I and can back it with proof. :)

    Comes with/takes full size mudguards.

    Has rack mounts.

    Does the job.

I tried that, but my commute was just far too hilly for single speed, so for me wasn't suited. I was spinning out far too easy on the downhill, and struggling uphill. But my commute is 3 miles each way, and all downhill going, uphill coming home. A mixture of both wouldn't have been so bad.

So, i'd say singlespeed can be a nice idea, just be careful as it doesn't suit every ride.

true, I have only one hill, and I tned to free wheel down it after getting up to speed. But the minimal maintenance and cleaning is a great bonus as well.

There are some superb details on 2010 model bikes at the moment. Type CAAD8 into google and press the "Shopping" sidebar and you'll see Cannondales from 449!

yup, I picked up my normal size (54) CAAD8 Sora at Evans' for £449 on a price match, mind you that was a few weeks ago. Good bike for the price, well pleased. Think you'll struggle to fit 'blades with anything other than 23 section tyres, so you might want to think about what sort of roads you're going to be using it on.

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Lightest doesn't always equate to best, especially at entry level - bet there's not a lot in it.

    Here Here :lol::lol:

Anyways, popped into my LBS tonight to get my MTB checked over, and I was shown a "Landrover" hybrid. All the road gear... i.e dinner plate sized main ring, skinny wheels and tyres... and I'd get change from £300.

    Opinions?

Landrover are better at 4x4s than bikes.

On the subject of mudguards they protect the bike as much as the rider.

That's a 7 speed with 38c tyres, it's not going to be much faster than your mtb. Heavy too I'd imagine.
