Couple of quick questions about food pre and during rides:
* Does it make a difference what porridge you eat? i.e. Tesco value or Quaker
* Are Jelly Babies ok to eat during ride?
Cheers

Just make sure it's not too hot or too cold but just right, and also be sure you finish it before the three bears return home.* Are Jelly Babies ok to eat during ride?
Jelly Babies are good but real babies are better as they contain quality fresh protein.0 -

Oats is oats (IMO), although I am sure some will be along with some sort of "steel cut" arguement....
As for jelly babies, obviously full of sugar, and there are healthier alternatives, but eat what you want.0 -
I prefer rolled oats to porridge oats and as to jelly babies, I don't see the point. If I want sugar get me home its a mars bar.
You have to remember sugar is quickly turned to energy, but you crash quickly on it too. I find jelly babies are better suited for running as I can consume them over a longer period. As where on the bike, I average a proper snack every hour (bar/sandwich).0 -
Porridge is porridge tbh......BUT if you're fussy like me, Sainsbury Taste the Difference is the best, followed by quakers old fashion jumbo oats.... Cooked on the stove slowly (10mins or so, stirring infrequently) with 70% Semi-skimmed milk and 30% water.... lovely.
If sugar is need while out and about... anything will do.... i hear jelly babies are good, i've never used them as a fuel but have stolen them from cycling companions. Have you considered dried fruit??'Ride hard for those who can't.....'0 -
