Where to go? Last minute training holiday

Have the last full week of March off.

Any suggestions of where to go for some training? Was thinking Girona because that's where the teams go. But also fancy the nicer weather in Andalucia. Could sign up for training holiday, but also tempted to just organise myself.

Am training for the Marmotte so need some hills.

OR - could just go to Wales.

Some specific recommendations would be appreciated if you've had good or bad experiences.

Also - is now a useful time to go hill training for Marmotte in July? Unlikely i'm going to get to repeat this little break before then.

Inland from Malaga is good - & hilly enough for most! Loads of B&B & hostals/pensiones just pick one, eat sleep & ride till you drop.

Algarve, Algarve ... Algarve. Stay in Lagos or Burgau, I have a friend with two Vilas and a luxury penthouse apartment.
You can ride the Monchique Mountain range and the beautifull West Coast in much better weather than Majorca, Italy or the rest of Europe for that matter.
Highest point in Monchique is 902m (road) with a variety of different climbs to do, there is even a 16km climb to the Foia (highest point).
I was there in February and got brown legs, the food and drink are much cheaper than the UK.
I am not a business, I just like to help my fellow cyclists and my wife and I get cheap digs in return when we go.
Next March 2012 there will be a full Europen Sportive based around the Monchique with (Closed Roads) why not give the area the once over then do the Sportive next year.

    Check this out.... http://burgauvilla.com/

We have contacts for other accomodation as well if the dates or spec doesn't match.

Links to some pictures taken on our winter stays....... 8)

Why tidy the house when you can clean your bike?

Burgau is a seaside holiday place and would be on the quite side during the end of March but normally the beach would be swimming costumes, the sea isn't warm (Atlantic).
If you hired a car from the airport it is relatively cheap and you cover a large part of the transfer cost by doing so. If your wife drove then it is only 15 mins to Lagos which has more to do with a great municipal swimming pool and a very nice old town part to it. There is also a good bus service.
Eating out compared with the UK is much better value for money and Burgau has some nice restaurants, food and drink in supermarkets is much, much cheaper than the UK as long as keep away from the 'English Brands'.
Like all hols it's a bit weather dependant and so far it has been wet there this March but this forecast looks much better http://www.weather-forecast.com/locatio ... sts/latest it is usually warmer than the figures quoted on this website and certainly you could also add a few degrees C on the road when the suns out, which is a lot of the year by the way.
I can put you in touch with Miguel in Burgau who runs the Navagador restaurant and apartments he is a keen roadie and will gladly have you along to do some of the Lagos Road bike Club rides which can get upwards of thirty out at the weekends.

Anymore info needed just give us the nod.

You will find the area in full bloom with lots of flowers out as well as the orange and lemon groves in fruit. Can't wait to get back again in May. :P
