4th to 3rd Cat Confusion...?

It happens because the computer systems aren't that good, if you just apply for a new licence, then there's a very good chance you won't be matched up with your previous incarnation if it was a few years ago. However if you mention it when you get a new licence (by phone needed for that obviously) then they can check and get you straight into 3rd which is where you should be if you've ever been before. Or do you really think someone should be manually checking every new licence application against all the systems to see if they had a licence before?Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0

Yes, plus it certainly used to be that veterans were allowed to go back to 4th if they chose to, not sure if that's still the case but certainly 5 or so years ago it was.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
Each BC race is given a points band, you must gain 10 points in any one season/year to move from 4th-3rd cat, you can only move up by gaining the required points and to gain those points you must finish in a high enough position to get points. Check the link to find out how many points you get for what band race

If riders have a break from competition they can find themselves back at 4th cat - even if they were 3rd, 2nd, etc, etc before their break. Perhaps this shouldn't happen - but it definitely does...
it doesn't happen. I've not held a race licence since an accident in 2007 ended my racing when I fractured my back. Just decided to renew yesterday and try again. Was 4th on provisional licence but they've reinstated my 3rd cat even though I've not raced or even ridden that regularly in 5 years
It does happen - i know riders who currently hold 4th cat licences, despite having previously held 2nd or 3rd cat licences...
not to me or anyone else in my club who's taken a break. we've all been reinstated at 3rd cat. Maybe it depends on whether you remain as a BC member (I did), how long since you last held a race licence (5 years for me, 7 years for one rider who renewed last year) or they've changed their processes at some point. I did here from a BC employee who's in our club that some years ago they altered their computerised records making it easier to keep a trace on members' licence history.
Or maybe it's just BC inconsistency??0
