  • I appreciate the human angle in Boonen's cocaine use, people are fallible, young people with lots of money are more so.

I have a background in psychiatry and have seen first hand the problems of drug abuse (I include alcohol, cigarettes and and marijuana in this). I have sympathy and a certain degree of empathy.

Once can be excused, but 3 times?

( I have since read that boonen was caught before the other two higher profile cases but it was not made public straight away).

I'm not having a go at you Rick, we all have our hero's.

Using cocaine tends to bring people down in my esteem. Using it twice is more than twice as bad.

Not a good advert for anything.

You'll probably have to get rid of half your record collection then.

Kenny Rogers does not use cocaine!

    Ray Charles did though... bummer!

I'm pretty sure the french monks on my gregorian chants album don't do cocaine, nor the singing nuns and the hari chrishna collective.

Freddie Mercury just used it to powder his cheeks, he did not inhale!

  • Back on topic, why not watch Women's cycling, then? Goodness knows they could do with some support. The 2008 worlds win by Cooke remains one of the most exciting races I've seen, by any gender.

Not only that, but this years world's had a cracking finale, Cooke and Arndt's escapade eclipsing Gilbert's similar attempt in my view.

Maybe it's just because of he British interest it was interesting, but with so many Brit women doing well, it could be a good year if you're into that sort of thing.

I don't think I'm defending him! It's more the "not a good advert for anything".

Whoa, you mean I need to take up cycling?

Sorry, that sounds like it would require some kind of effort.

And more importantly use up valuable time that could otherwise be spent scanning the pages of the Hindustan times for juicy little cycling tidbits

In the past two months I have received two copies each of CycleSport and ProCycling on my iPad - I haven't even looked at them.

I rarely come into here anymore, I'm not going to any other cycling websites. But since the week before Xmas, I have ridden 2,000+ kms and have fallen in love again with just riding my bike.

I haven't missed the sport, I'll probably take a passing interest come the classics, and the grand tours, but I feel all the better for it.

One does not have to be at the exclusion of the other you know,it is possible to rack up the miles and still follow pro cycling.

What's with this endless I'm riding my bike instead crap. This is a forum about pro racing, you don't have to ride a bike to be interested.
