New Club for Norfolk

Just to give any one who's been thinking about joining a club in the Norfolk region that there is a new club due to begin taking membership from March 1st
Iceni Velo will cater for most cyclists needs, road, mtb and cross being the key areas
The club will be a BC affiliated club and will be hosting an ERRL road race and two local crits during 2011, but don't let this put you off if your not the racey type as we will be offering club runs for all speeds and no one gets left behind
We have been riding as a large unofficial group of up to 50 riders for some years, with the sucsess of this we have now made it official
We have secured sponsorship from a major car manufacturer and some cycling specific companies to add kudos and longevity for the club
Whether you are in to road racing, sportives, club runs, MTB, cross and time trialing we will cater for all and we have appointed a female committee member to specialize in recruiting and developing female members
Our ethos will be one of friendship and fun with respect for all members and an onus on saftey and support
Keep an eye out on this thread for more information and the website details once live

Sounds perfect.
Where will you be based and where will club runs start from?
Iceni Velo? I'm guessing Swaffham?0 -
yup - it would be interesting to know where in Norfolk you are aiming to base things ?Cylon cats - have no plan0
-
Theres an Iceni brewery out near Mundford, that would make a nice base0
-
Many thanks for your comments and interest in to our new club
We will be based in Norwich
Club runs will mainly be leaving from Norwich and we plan to use Streetlife Cycles in Norwich a meeting point
We have members from all over the county so we will vary our routes outs so members can tag on along the route
We will occasionaly be organising MTB rides in Thetford Forrest and in Sherringham and Cromer area as the rides there are fantastic
We also have a large contingent of riders who tackle sportives and last year we had 12 riders of our then unoffical club ride the Dragon Ride
This year we are attending among others the Lakeland Loop, Cheshire Cat, Dragon ride, Dunwich Dynamo, Autumn epic etc so look out for us if your there and come and say hello
Hope the new club is of interest and i will keep this thread updated on developments
Hopefully we can go-live on 1st March with the website and on-line membership
Please let me know if you have any further questions and thanks again

Good luck with your venture, I'll keep a look out for your new website and hopefully meet up for a few Thetford rides.
Disappointing that you're so far away from me.
Mr West Norfolk - whereabouts are you based as I'm based in West Norfolk and would be keen on getting out on the road bike in our area.
Cheers0 -
Where abouts are you based BHW?0
-
Just outside Kings Lynn.
Swaffham side.
Ride socially on the MTB most weeks at Brandon but road riding is all solo stuff.
Bit windy yesterday coming back from Hunstanton. Struggling to keep 10mph into the headwind!!!0 -
Theres a club in Kings Lynn, I am a member of CC Breckland, but thats probably a bit far for you.0

Hi Friso,
I've recently been thinking of joining a club with a cycling buddy.
Will the club be anything to do with Streetlife?0 -
Hi Jonny Fortnight
Yes, the current unoffical club which is more of a collective that is now becoming Iceni Velo was really a Streetlife club riding in the black and red kit which was sponsored by Extreme Sports Thearpy / CCN
We have a large organic group but as it grown in size it is evident that we had to start an offical club and we have got new sponsorship so the need to change kit colours and name
We thought it best not to be associated in name by any shop or organisation for the longevity of the club
But in short Iceni Velo is an offical BC recognised club which was originally Team Streetlife
Hope this helps and i really hope that you and your mate can join us
Cheers

Will be interested if and when my knee gets better.0

Hi Aaron,
I already ride a lot with Lee & Kate (who know most of the Streetlife lot), so will definitely join you once it's all up and running.
Who've you got doing your website?
Jonny0 -
Hi Jonny
That's great that you already know a few of the guys and gals, you will already know what a great bunch we have
One of our committee mebers (Tim is taking care of the web-site and another one is adding content to it at the moment, however if you could be of asistance than we welcome your input
The club is starting to make a real buzz , as you will already know the curent Steetrlifers are a great bunch with some real strength in depth
I think we will be having a meeting next week for current and new members so i hope to be able to take membership applications then
I will keep this thread informed of dates, place and time
Regards

Extreme sports therapy/CCN are a BC affiliated club already, so is this new club some sort of splinter group then?.
TBH, I thought Streetlife were already a BC affiliated club!, I am sure I raced with some streetlife kitted guys at the Norwich P&R crit series.0 -
This is where it gets complicated
I suppose its a sort of splinter club however its more like the whole tree then the splinter and its more of an evolution then a totally new club. The new club has everyones blessing who road in the EST kit last season and i expect everyone will be joining when the doors open soon
EST wasn't a cycling club, (they where a team) and we wanted to be able to call ourselves and opperate as a club, open to all abilities not just the racing ones among us and to cater for everyone
I hope this makes some sense0 -
Friso,
You forgot to mention rides like the Suffolk Sunrise and the Norwich 100.
Really looking forward to getting the new club launched. We're also working to get some sort of coaching set up for junior members and new riders both on and off road.

Sorry for not replying sooner. BHW. Travelling at moment (alas for work) although it is sunny here and there are lots of nice road bikes about so it's not all bad news!
I'm near Downham. Have a bit of a packed schedule - but always pleased to meet up for a ride, if I am around. Feel free to ping me.Cylon cats - have no plan0 -
New club sounds like a great idea to me, largely as I live just round the corner and have been looking to join up somewhere.
Plus, it doesn't get much better than the Fat Cat pub across from Streetlife for post ride drinks...0 -
Hi Woopat
Great news and oh yes the Fat Cat may have had a little something to do with location
Hope to see you soon
Keep watching for updates0 -
Friso, best of luck with the new club. It can only be good to have another one in Norwich, the more people we can attract into the club scene the better it must be for cycling. Our club VCN has had a sudden big increase in numbers over the last 2 year(about 40%) and to be honest I can see problems in the summer with large numbers trying to get out on the club run. We had nearly 40 this sunday even though the weather wasn't great. Love the sound of coaching for youngsters, definatly something missing atm.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Hi Markos
Many thanks for your support
It will be very important to have a good relationship with established clubs like VCN
We already get on well as Streetlife so things should be even better once we are up and running
Like you we will be offering a reduced cost for second membership
Hope to see you out soon0 -
Oooh - this sounds quite interesting.
I live in Norwich, and try to get a bit of cycling done every day (road bike).0 -
Hi Caligari
Thanks for the interest
The interest we are getting is fantastic
Think it helps already having a large following from our old 'team' title
Iceni Velo is now available to follow on Twitter and Facebook, but only just gone on today so don't be suprised to lack of activity in it's early days
Be great to welcome you in to Norfolks newest and most dynamic club
Hope to meet in person soon0 -
I'm pleased to be able to vouch for the new club, great to see this happening and a positive natural progression from the old Streetlife team.
Can't wait to join up, great bunch of guys and girls and the only place I have found locally that is truly an inclusive bunch.

-
will keep an eye on this thread, i go to norwich once a week, will you be doing any week night runs?0
-
cookies,
Some of the guys are riding on a Thursday night at the moment. If this year is anything like last we'll be out Tuesdays & Thursdays when the nights get a bit lighter.
We've got a new web site going live very soon it'll have details of all the rides, times, meeting points etc.
Come along if you get a chance. Be good to see some new faces.www.icenivelo.co.uk - Norfolks most inclusive cycling club0 -

Hi Gav888
There is nothing stoping you joining as you will be able to join on-line soon and you could get locals to you to join as well and have your own rides local to you
Some of us will be riding the Suffolk Sunrise soon so you could meet you then
A few of us will be riding the Dunwich Dynamo again so not to far out for you
Thanks for your interest0
