Time to recalibrate my FTP?????

A quick question for our resident training with power experts...

I went out for a ride this morning in the wind and the rain. About 45k with just under 1000m of vertical ascent in a little over 2 hours. Felt hard but I put that down to the conditions as much as anything else.

WKO+ is giving me an IF of 0.956 and an NP that is close to where my threshold is set.

Does this suggest that I've underestimated my threshold? I've just started training again and don't have a lot of data. Have I underestimated where I'm starting from, or is an IF of 0.956 within the bounds of normality for a 2+ hour ride?

Thanks in advance! [And sorry to all those for whom this is utter gobbledegook!!!]

Either failure to calibrate head unit or your FTP needs retesting.
  • its possible for me to do 0.97 for 2 hours. ive done it a few times.

if you rode hard without stopping much it seems normal. if you coasted along for sections of downhill or had traffic lights etc and get to 0.95 you may need to retest your ftp.

what were your best 5 minute and 20 minute parts of the ride? they can indicate ftp improvements if they are close to max efforts and are larger than usual.

best to retest ftp just in case. even if its accurate testing is great training.

Not an expert by no means but someone with quite a bit of data, I'd say an If of 0.95 is pretty close to = wrong ftp territory, although by how much would need more figures and I'd still want a bit more proof myself.

Fwiw a few years ago I did a 1hour ish tt on one Sunday then then did a 50 at 95% if the weekend after. When I asked on the tt forum iirc this seemed around the normal from going from one hour to two hours, but everyone's power time curve is different.

im going to add: I was suffering like a dog to keep up with some powerful riders. no cycling for a few days after these efforts. if you werent feeling too bad after your ride then you need to retest.
