Surely what you lose on the way out, you gain on the way back? Assuming a looped course, of couse.

I knocked 10 secs of a mile time that is part of my regular route going with the wind..
  • Yep Tour of Flanders last year showed me why Belgians have had such good cyclists. Going back for more in April though!

    Wind is the flatlander's mountain.

This Dutchman (living on the windy North Sea coast) agrees! :)
When it's as windy as the past few days, i head out into the direction of the wind until I'm really tired. Then turn the bike around and get blown home at warp speed, a nice reward for the suffering in the headwind. Of course, being careful with cross winds and definitely leaving those deep carbon wheels at home.

31mile charity Ride Saturday, 43 Mile club ride Sunday, 17 mile commute today.

You're not planning your rides lads, I was asked to lead the club ride yesterday, so knowing the wind was SW, then the best plan was to head W/NW on the way out through the lanes which offer protection and then head E/SE on the return.

Yep for sure there are going to be some blasts, but all manageable if you all ride as a team.

Today's commute was hell though, all the way straight into it, I normally average over 20mph on the way, but was down to under 13 this morning, it was horrible, but my thighs were pumped and as someone I know always says about wind...."Free Pain"
  • Rode home just as it was starting to get bad, twice I was pushed from being several inches from the kerb to the middle of the road, fortunately there was nothing behind at the time. Glad I wasn't riding the canals either....

  • Fridays commute was fun, seemed to be a headwind in both directions. Still, i enjoy the pain and convince myself ill be better for it.
  • ..wen't out Sat morning with our bunch of pub novices, with some trepidation on my part after a disconcerting mid-week ride in lesser winds.
I must admit, although it was well windy, with one very strong cross wind after a couple of miles, it was actually ok, got used to it to a large extent, down on the drops seemed to help stability a lot. Only problem was that the eejit who planned the route (i.e. moi), had us going all the way back into the headwind...well, hey, it was a training ride, wasn't it?
