Keep getting it. Even with a full glove. Doctors reckon its through cycling. Can be painful. Can't work out if its sweat or a bad reaction to type of bar tape or rubber gear hoods or what. Anyone get it or had it??

Sounds like dry skin. I get it at the bottom of the thumb and the outer part of the index finger. Have you tried Neutrogena Hand Cream? It's only a few quid for a tube.

My partner gets skin iritation and soreness due to constantly using alcohol hand gel and latex gloves at work, she has tried many products but the only one that works is a hemp hand cream available from bodyshop, but it smells a bit.0

Splitting skin on fingers? Is it red and itchy? Are there blisters? Are your hands wet every day for a longer period of time/do you use detergents/alcogel in your job?
Giving hands timeto heal is tricky. If its red and or itchy you might need a cortisone cream to help it clear up. Personally i'd get some cotton gloves (cleaning ones form Boots?), smother my hands in a good hand cream or just plain vaseline before i go to bed and wear the gloves to contain the mess! Do this for a few days and see if it helps.
Reaction to brake hoods is unlikely but you could easily check by wearing one protecive glove for a few times and seeing if there's a difference.
Its most likely a lifestyle thing - chapped hands do to work and or leisure activities. Agood hand cream will help but it needs to be used repeatedly & often to work.0 -
I swear by Vaseline Intensive Care "DermaCare" for that sort of thing. That's the heavy-duty one in the white bottle, not the normal stuff in the yellowish bottle (which is also very good but more as an everyday moisturiser).0

Sounds like contact dermatitis to me, and hoods or bar tape may well be the cause. Probly need a steroid cream to calm it down and tons of moisturiser to help it repair. (the cotton gloves at night tip is a good one)
What you then do regarding cycling is a tricky one. You could try taking off the tape and hoods to see if that allows you to ride without it flaring up. Then reintroduce the hoods, and if that's ok, replace with a different kind of tape?0 -
Unlikely to be due to cycling itself, but getting cold wet hands could be a trigger issue. What do you do at work? Any contact with allergens, e.g. dusts, chemicals, latex?0

I suffer from much the same, caused by getting cold hands despite 2 pairs of gloves. Been suggested I use vaseline as a barrier cream, so far it seems to be working.
(That's the petroleum jelly rather than their moisturiser creams).0 -
Thanks very much for the input and suggestions. Some interesting things said. I need to try and eliminate.0
